The pieces will need to be ready in time for the state fair. Then we can sell raffle tickets for it on our day at the fair which is September 23 rd. Put that day on your calendar too so you can volunteer at the booth the fairgrounds gives us to display and advertise our club. July Program on Carving Eyes For the July program, Tim Hataway will be teaching the class. He will do hands on instruction on carving eyes. Bring your tools since it is a hands on program. Pete Zachry has graciously provided the wood for everyone to use. You will carve a simple eye and discuss techniques of different styles of eyes. Don t forget to BRING YOUR TOOLS!!! June Meeting Thanks to all who brought carvings last month to share with the club. We especially enjoyed those that David Porter brought showing us all the places he has been to see his kid s missionary journeys and mission trips he had taken himself. We had some great carvings that were shared by all. The Auction Items that Shelby Davis donated to the club brought in $248 for the club treasury. Thanks Shelby Oklahoma State Fair will be on September 17-27 th. Please consider putting one or more of your carvings in to be judged. We had lots of ribbon winner s last year. Registration is between July 1 and August 15, 2015. A copy of the Guide and forms will be available at the club meeting. Entries will need to be delivered September 12 & 13, & picked up September 28 & 29.

****** ***NEWS *NEWS FLASH******* Show pictures from our OCWC 2014 show are in the Chip Chats this month. It is always fun to see your carvings in print. Door Prizes for OCWC 2015 Show Carved door prizes for the show will be needed for the hourly door prizes. If everyone contributes one, we will have plenty. Thanks in advance. OKLAHOMA ART DAY Kent Wallace and Richard Dalke represented our Woodcarving club with a booth at the State Capitol along with 400 other arts and cultural supporters to encourage our state to continue to support the arts on May 5, 2015. Thanks guys. First Annual Firefighter Appreciation Award The OCWC has created this new award. It will be presented annually. Area firefighters will choose a committee who will judge the carvings. To be eligible, the carving must be done by a person who is fully registered in the OCWC annual show. Club table entries are not eligible. The makeup of the firefighter ighter judging committee will be determined by the firefighters themselves. The amount of the award is $50.00 and will be funded by the OCWC. All active duty and retired firefighters will be admitted to the Annual OCWC Show at no charge. Jim Franklin Clay Sculpture Seminar For some time we have been trying to schedule Jim Franklin for a Bas (or Low) Relief seminar to help woodcarvers understand the technique of low relief carving. Jim is a renowned sculpture from Perry, Oklahoma, and has his work displayed throughout the US. Perhaps his most accessible work is the Billy Simms bronze at the University of Oklahoma. He also did the recently dedicated bronze of an oil field worker in Edmond s Mitch Park. You can get an idea of Jim s work at his website <jimfranklinsculpture.com>. Since Jim is bringing the sculpting stands and tools the class size is limited to 10. As of now we have nine signed up; however, there is always a chance there will be last minute cancellations. It would be good to have a couple of alternates if we could. The Seminar will be July 27th through the 29th from 9:00 until around 4:00 at the Church of the Servant Methodist Church on MacArthur just north of Memorial (Kilpatrick Turnpike). This is the same location as Bob Gentry s classes are held. For more information contact Pete Zachry at 405-501-5390 or 405-732-2888. Pete Richard Dalke & Kent Wallace

Wednesday Night Carving Moved to Thursday The Wednesday Night Woodcarving class started by Bob Gentry is having a summer session this year; however, to accommodate the church, we moved the class to Thursday evenings from 6:00 until 9:00. For those who cannot make it by 6:00 anytime is just fine. It will simply reduce the time available. We have a new coffeepot and a new room for our sessions and we will very soon have a new Burke s Sharpening Machine to help keep our tool edges clean and sharp with very little effort. Plenty of room for everyone and the summer s fee will be $5.00. Pete Zachry and Steve Brandt are the main instructors if help is needed or one simply carve on one s own and just enjoy the evening. DJ Boyce From Richard Dalke I came across a very prolific woodcarver from the Netherlands. There are a lot of pictures of his work on his site. There are also some videos. His restoration projects of very ornate carvings are great. He carves very casually. I guess you get good if you have to make a living at it. Here is a link to his site. http://www.tttop.com/ September Fest at History Center The club will have a table or 2 at the Oklahoma History Centers "September Fest" for demonstration and display, again this year. It will be at the Oklahoma History Center on Saturday, September 12 from 10am to 4pm. If you would like to participate, please contact Richard Dalke or Steve Brandt. Bill Medina Patches will be available at the meeting for $5.00. See John Amicon. Kent Wallace
