North Texas Endodontic Associates ISSUE 11 OCTOBER 2014 NTEA welcomes Dr. Esther Tam Dr. Joel Small, Dr. David Witherspoon and Dr. John Regan would like to welcome Dr. Esther Tam to our practice. Dr. Tam will begin working a few days a week in September. Dr. Esther Tam was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. She attended the University of British Columbia, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Cell Biology and Genetics in 1999. She went on to attend the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dentistry, where she received her DMD (2003), Master of Science in Dentistry (2006), and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Endodontics (2006). She practiced in Boston and also spent time there as a Clinical Assistant Professor at her alma mater. In 2008, Dr. Tam returned to Vancouver, where she maintained a private practice in Endodontics and was both the Undergraduate Director of Endodontics (2010 2013) and a Clinical Assistant Professor (2008 2013) at the University of British Columbia Faculty of Dentistry. She also taught at British Columbia's Children's Hospital and Vancouver General Hospital in the Department of Dentistry, and was a founder and mentor of CITED, a multi disciplinary dental study club in Vancouver. She is a published author in the Journal of Endodontics and active in giving lectures locally and abroad. Dr. Tam recently moved to Texas and is excited to be part of the team at North Texas Endodontic Associates. She currently teaches at the Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry in the Department of Endodontics. Dr. Tam is a member of the American Association of Endodontists, American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, Dallas County Dental Society, and Greater DFW Endodontic Society. She is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. Dr. Tam is married to her husband, Kenny, and they have an eight month old son named Zachary. She enjoys yoga, running, cooking, traveling, and singing.
Baylor Scholarship Recipient Announced NTEA has created a $5,000 annual scholarship to be awarded to a deserving senior dental student at Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry. Dr. Joel Small, Dr. David Witherspoon, Dr. John Regan, and Dr. Esther Tam of North Texas Endodontic Associates are happy to announce the recipient of this year s award is Rachel Zimmerer. Rachel was selected based on her overall scholastic achievement and community involvement. Congratulations Rachel! Dr. Witherspoon Co Author s text book article on MTA Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) is truly one of the greatest and innovative materials that have been introduced to dentistry, and endodontics, in recent years. The Doctors at NTEA have been involved in researching this material both at a clinical and laboratory level. They have published several articles, and oftenquoted in articles on the clinical application of the material in the JADA and JOE publications. Most recently, our very own Dr. Witherspoon co authored Chapter 5 (Management of Teeth with Necrotic Pulps and Open Apices). Mineral Trioxide Aggregate Properties and Clinical Applications. This book is edited by Dr. M Torbinejad the inventor of the material and represents the most complete text on the research and clinical use of MTA. continued on next page

Oral Medicine Continuing Education Course On September 18, 2014, Drs. Small, Witherspoon and Regan, hosted an evening Continuing Education Course for referring Dentist on Oral Medicine given by Jacqueline Plemons, DDS, MS. This was a very informative course and was held at Maggiano s and had over 40 in attendance. Please see attached pictures from the event.
Dr. Small speaks at Opinion Leaders Forum: In August, Dr. Small had the privilege of speaking at the Endodontic Opinion Leaders Forum held in Playa de Carmen, Mexico. His presentation s title was Line of Sight Leadership. The forum was sponsored by Tulsa Dental and there were approximately 175 endodontists in attendance.
