6 COURSE FEE CONSOLIDATION Benefits: Allows for improved management of funds and increased flexibility of revenue to meet university needs Increases funding available for need based financial aid Provides incentives for summer enrollment Simplifies tuition and fees bills 6
7 GUARANTEED TUITION AND FEE FRAMEWORK Issue: Comply with House Bill 29 and with TAMU System Requirements to offer a Guaranteed Tuition and Fee Plan for Undergraduate Students Proposal: Fixed rate for students based on degree plan Includes tuition and mandatory fees Excludes non-mandatory fees (e.g. field trip fees, study abroad fees, lab fees, parking fees) and other academic costs (e.g. sports passes, room & board, books, supplies) 7
8 GUARANTEED TUITION AND FEE FRAMEWORK (CONTINUED) Proposal (continued): Rate fixed for 4-years but time period may vary depending on a student s degree program Maintain flat rate for 12 or more hours Implement flat rate for 8 11 hours Rates will differ for resident and non-resident students Guaranteed time period for current students will be based on classification Does not apply to graduate students Benefits: Provides predictability for students and their families Provides incentives for on-time graduation Simplifies the overall tuition and fee structure 8
