How to borrow an ebook using Bolinda BorrowBox app User Guide Before you begin, you will need: Your library card number and PIN An email address A device capable of running Apps, such as a tablet or smart phone Your Apple ID or Google account details 1. Open the Google Play Store / Apple App Store on your device and search for BorrowBox. 2. Once installed, open the BorrowBox app by tapping the icon located on your home screen. 3. When you open the app for the first time you need to tell it which library you are connecting to. Type in Lake Macquarie City Library then enter your library card number and PIN and tap Sign In. 4. You will need to accept Bolinda Digital s Terms and Conditions. Tap Agree to continue. The Lake Mac Libraries logo will appear as the app is initialised. 1
5. BorrowBox will open automatically to your loans page. This page shows you what items you have on loan, the items you have on reserve, and what items you have previously borrowed. It also shows you when the items you have on loan will expire. At the top of the page you can see how many items you can still borrow in Available Loans. Head phones indicate eaudiobook loans and the book icon indicates ebooks loans. To renew your items, tap Renew on the item you wish to return and tap Confirm Renewal. To return an item early, tap Return on the item you wish to return and tap Confirm Return. This will enable you to continue to borrow additional items immediately. 2
6. Note the menu bar at the top of the screen (Android) or the bottom of the screen (ios). The stack of books icon will return you to your loans page The headphones icon will allow you to browse Bolinda s eaudiobook collection. The book icon will allow you to browse Bolinda s ebook collection. The magnifying glass icon enables you to do a keyword search through both the ebooks and eaudiobooks collections. The cogs icon enables you to change your settings and log out of your account. ios On Android devices the menu bar is at the top of the screen (shown below) and the settings button is represented by the three dots next to the magnifying glass. 7. To browse the collection, tap the eaudiobooks or ebooks icons to browse available titles. On ios you can swipe down to reveal the option to show only available titles. You can also tap the various buttons to filter between Adult, Young Adult or Children's titles, as well as new or popular titles. On Android you are shown a list of highlighted titles, and can tap on the more books link to see the full collection and access filtering options. When you reach the next page you can filter by new titles, top downloads, category, genre and so on by swiping the screen left or right. ios Android To search for a particular title or author, tap the magnifying glass icon in the menu bar. Tap in the search field then type in what you are looking for. 4
8. When you find a title that you would like to borrow, tap the image of the cover. You will then be shown a larger version of the cover and can swipe down to read summary information, a page count, and related titles. If the item is available you will have the option to Borrow. If the item is currently on loan you will have the option to Reserve it. You can also preview a short section of the book by tapping on Preview. 9. Tapping on Borrow or Reserve will ask you to confirm your loan. If you are sure you would like to borrow this title tap Confirm Loan. This box also shows how many loans you have remaining. 10. Once you have confirmed, BorrowBox will process the loan. This may take a few moments depending on your device and internet connection. At the pop up box, click Download now, or Keep browsing. Downloading now will download and open the book. If you continue browsing your book can be downloaded later by opening it at any time on your loans page. 5

The first time you open an ebook: On ios devices you will see the progress bar at the bottom of the screen as the ebook begins downloading automatically. ebooks Audiobooks On Android devices you will need to tap the Download ebook button at the bottom of the screen. Once the ebook has downloaded you can begin reading. Tap the centre of the screen to show or hide the navigation and menu buttons at the top and bottom of the screen. Tap here to return to your loans page. Your place in the book will be saved with a bookmark. Tap the left side of the page to go back Tap the right side of the page to go forward. You can also swipe left or right to turn pages. Tap here to access the table of contents Tap here to change font size 6

Your place in the book will be saved. ios Swipe down to reveal the Edit bar which allows you to Download All files at once. Tap on Edit to delete tracks. Tap on a chapter name to start playing that chapter. Note: Make sure you have downloaded the track first. The green arrows indicates these tracks have not yet been downloaded. Tap to download an individual track. Volume and playback controls Tap here to return to your loans page. Your place in the book will be saved. Android Tap to access the Edit menu which allows you to Download All files at once. Tap on Edit List to delete tracks. Tap on a chapter name to start playing that chapter. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How to use the BorrowBox app 1. How many items can I borrow? You can borrow up to 10 items of each type (ebooks / eaudiobooks) on loan at one time. Reservations and renewals are regarded as loans, and decrease your available loans count. 2. How long do I have the items on loan for? Items are for a two week loan. 3. Can I return an item before its due date? Yes. Items can be returned early enabling you to borrow additional items immediately. 4. Can I renew an item? Yes. If no one has reserved the item you are able to renew each item once. 5. I do not have a device capable of installing the BorrowBox app, can I still download items? You can still download our items onto a computer. If you have an ereader that is compatible with the epub file format, you can then transfer the title from your computer to your device via a USB cable. BorrowBox is saying my Barcode or Password are incorrect? BorrowBox checks your account details every time it starts up. If your device has Internet access but cannot connect to the authentication server, BorrowBox will not let you sign in. If you are sure you have entered the correct barcode and PIN, you can try putting your device in Flight mode (or manually disable WiFi and mobile data). Close BorrowBox and reopen it, and it will sign in without contacting the authentication server. You will then be able to read any books you have already downloaded, but not access any new ones. This method should only be used as a temporary workaround until problems with the authentication server are resolved. For further help and support, contact your local library branch. 8
