Norwegian contemporary: Else Marie Hagen 6 November - 31 December 2010 Rogaland Theatre Stavanger, Norway www.statoil.com/artprogramme
Dear viewer and reader, The Statoil art programme is pleased to present the exhibition Norwegian contemporary: Else Marie Hagen in the foyer of Rogaland Theatre. The exhibition shows nine artworks by one of the finest artists working with photography in Norway today Else Marie Hagen. The foyer of Rogaland Theatre may be an unconventional venue for an art exhibition, but is actually well-suited. Its charm and atmosphere lend an unusual air to the works shown there, and the perhaps unexpected encounter with contemporary art is augmented by the cultural experience and social event that is a theatre performance. It is an interesting case of cross fertilisation, very much in the spirit of our art programme. Our commitment to art allows us to make a sustainable contribution to the cultural development of the societies in which we operate, as well as build our corporate culture and profile. Art awakens creativity and inspiration it brings people together and into conversation with each other. Our ambition is to: Create a courageous, distinctive and coherent art programme Promote young and emerging artists whose creative work gives society an orientation, shakes things up, or redefines Engage our people and encourage them to take advantage of opportunities for aesthetic reflection and learning Provide accessibility to the public so that even more people have immediate access to art Actively support and participate in the exchange of ideas and culture with the communities in which we operate To drive the above ambitions, the Statoil art programme is structured with five connected and dynamic elements: Art collection Exhibitions Learning Communication Statoil art award First and foremost we wish to thank Else Marie Hagen for her exceptional artistic vision and drive. Furthermore, we wish to thank Rogaland Theatre and their enthusiastic, professional staff for making this exhibition a reality. Let us together take advantage of the possibilities art has to offer. Accept the challenge. Enjoy the journey. Jens R Jenssen Senior vice president Human resources Leader of the Statoil art programme Cover: (detail) Panorama, 2009, Else Marie Hagen 5
