Introduction Air flows into the Intake Air Duct Kit through the front vent and out through the fans at the rear of the unit. This document provides instructions to install a Intake Air Duct Kit in a 19 in. (48.26 cm) Electronic Industries Association (EIA) rack in either a flush or recessed configuration using the following Brocade Intake Air Duct Kit. Flush mount kit for rack rail-to-rail depth of 27 to 31 in. (68.58 to 78.74 cm). Recessed kit for rail-to-rail depth of 27 to 31 in. (68.58 to 78.74 cm) The document is organized as follows. Safety........................................................ 3 Installation guidelines........................................... 3 Preparing to install the Intake Air Duct Kit in a four-post rack........... 3 Safety Observe the caution notice in this manual. The caution notice has an ID, which is displayed in parentheses (C015). Use this ID to locate the translation of this caution notice in the Brocade Product Safety Notices. CAUTION Use safe lifting practices when moving the product. (C015) NOTE A fully populated Intake Air Duct Kit weighs 86.18kg (190lbs) and requires a hydraulic or assisted lift to install it. Installation guidelines ATTENTION To ensure adequate cooling, install the switch with the air intake (port side) facing the cool-air aisle. Follow these general installation guidelines: The shelf in the kit is 2U high, so you need a total of 10U of rack space to install the shelf and the Intake Air Duct Kit. 1U is equal to 8.90 cm (3.50 in.). To allow the quick removal of all power from the switch, use AC power sources that are easily accessible and located near the switch. Verify that the additional weight of the switch does not exceed the weight limits of the rack. Plan for cable management before installing the switch. Cables can be managed in a variety of ways, such as by routing cables to either side of the switch, through cable channels on the sides of the rack, or using patch panels. Refer to the Brocade VDX 8770-4 Hardware Reference Manual for specific information. Preparing to install the Intake Air Duct Kit in a four-post rack Use the following instructions to install the Intake Air Duct Kit in a four-post rack. There are two variations on the Intake Air Duct Kit depending on whether you need to have the port side of the switch recessed or flush mounted. Instructions for the variations appear as follows.
