While some MCPS applications run on Macintosh computers, other applications do not function properly. One method to get these applications (such as Outlook and Special Education s O/SS) is to add a mini-program to a Macintosh Internet Browser to make the computer appear to be a Windows computer. Here s what we need to make this work: a) Recent Macintosh computer with Software versions 10.4 or higher, we cannot guarantee this will work on older Macs b) Mozilla s Firefox Internet Browser c) The Citrix Online Plug-in, also called a Client to let your Mac act like an Windows computer d) A Firefox certificate update e) A Help Desk call or ticket to ask that your name be added to the Mac user group to be able to view MCPS applications using the Citrix Online Plug-in. Listed below are the step-by-step directions. Be aware that Citrix is a private company that may change the locations of these files. 1. On your Macintosh screen locate the Apple icon on the top left of the menu bar. Click on about this Macintosh and write down the version number of your Macintosh software. The Citrix software requires Macintosh software versions 10.4, 10.5, 10.6, 10.7 or higher. 2. If you do not have the Firefox browser on your computer, do an Internet search for Firefox and download the browser. Restart your computer. 3. Open your Firefox browser and enter this address - http://www.citrix.com/ 4. In the main menu, select Downloads 5. Find the Client Center then click on Download below 6. In the Client Center, you can select to download the Citrix Receiver for desktop computers. Follow the path below to get the correct version:

For Macintosh Software Versions 10.6 and 10.7, or above For Macintosh Software Versions 10.4 and 10.5 Click on the Mac OS X link below for desktops In the Other client software section for prior versions of Citrix products, click on Download Components The next screen is the Receiver for Mac page, on the bottom right, click on Download In the Switch Products drop down box, select XenApp and Mac, then in the list below, click on Receiver for Mac 11.2 (Online plug-in) Click on the Download link next to For Web Access Citrix Online plug-in for Mac - Web This download window appears for both versions. VERY IMPORTANT do not click on the blue download button. Select Download your file manually The download will appear on your desktop (or the location your files are normally saved to) as Citrix- OnlinePlug-in_web_11.2.dmg The download will appear on your desktop (or the location your files are normally saved to) as CitrixReceiver_11.4.dmg Double click on this file to continue Double click on this file to continue The installation file is called Citrix Online Plug-in ; it may launch automatically to the next screen, if not double click. Then, click on the Install icon. The installation file is called Citrix Receiver ; it may launch automatically to the next screen, if not double click. Then, click on the Install icon.

7. A new program may start called Dazzle. We do not need this program for our purposes; please close any Dazzle windows. 8. Now you will see the Installation complete window. Click Close. 9. After the Citrix Online Plug-in or Receiver is installed (which only needs to be done once), we can access this tool by opening the Firefox Browser and entering this address: groupware.mcpsmd.org (you ll want to bookmark this site for later). 10. You will receive this message. This basically says that the connection we are about to start is not as secure as connecting within MCPS. We have tested this and have not found any problems with connecting to MCPS even though the warning messages may lead you to think there is a problem. Click I understand the Risks

11. The next message asks if you want to add exception, which means we are telling Firefox to trust our connection to MCPS. Click on add exception.

12. The next message tells Firefox to remember that we ve added the exception, check on Permanently store this exception and click Confirm Security Exception. All these security setting questions are only displayed once.

13. Now you should see the following screen, login with your MCPS user name and password. 14. Once logged in, you will see the Applications window. In the example below, I have access to both OSS and Outlook Web Access. For OSS, click on that icon.

15. If you get an error when logging in, then your Firefox set up needs one more file called a certificate. This file is located on the O/SS Resource page next to these directions. Download the file, double click to open, then double click that file to install and restart Firefox. 16. After you click the icon, Citrix will connect to OSS. If it is the first time launching, you may be prompted that the file you are launching is new. During the login process, you may be prompted you may be prompted with a message to allow READ access to your hard drive. Choose ALLOW if you intend to save attachments from OSS to your hard drive. Otherwise choose DENY. 17. Citrix will now launch a new window that looks and behaves exactly like OSS on your Windows computer at your school or office.
