Stay tuned... Welcome KRA!s new Head Pro for 2009: Jamie Morgan is Kanawha"s new Head Pro for the 2009 season. Jamie is the assistant coach for the University of Richmond Women"s team, Division I College team and a lead pro with the nonprofit organization Tennis 4 Life academy in Richmond. In 2008, Jamie was the tennis pro for Southampton Recreation Association. Before moving to Virginia, Jamie was an academy director and head pro for Gorin Tennis Academy Granite Bay, California. Jamie also had a successful collegiate career with University of California Davis from 1994-96. Jamie brings to Kanawha experience and enthusiasm in running tennis programs. We look forward to having him on-board this year at KRA. Jamie is going to be teaching private lesson at KRA and is ready for members to call him to schedule time for lessons. Jamie!s number is 890-8112. Del Moser will return as spring Bantam and Intermediate coach. He has coached the KRA bantam and intermediate teams for several years. We are happy to have Del return this spring season. Del is teaching private lessons and is ready for members to call him to schedule time with him. Del!s number is 740-7780. Billy Boykin will join the Kanawha tennis coaching for the months of May and June this year. He is the University of Richmond men"s coach. He had been the men"s and women"s assistant coach at the College of Charleston, before his work at the College of Charleston he was the assistant coach at his alma mater, Davidson College. Billy also had a successful collegiate career with Davidson"s Wildcats. Billy will be joining Jamie in running the KRA tennis clinics in May and June. Season Overview A BIG Thank You goes out to all the members who have sent in reference letters for Jamie and Del. The tennis committee appreciates all the help it has received in working to get KRA tennis moving in a better direction. Our hopes and plans are to offer a variety of programs for all members interested in tennis. We want to foster the love of this great game and to work with all of you to make Kanawha s tennis program strong. BANTAM & INTERMEDIATE Boys & Girls Tennis Bantam Boys & Girls Ages 12 and under Bantam tennis is a program, which offers children the opportunity to develop their individual and team tennis skills in a fun, yet competitive atmosphere. Players must be able to serve, rally and keep score of course with a little help! What:! 5 to 6-week session: Spring When: "Practices Wednesdays -! Begins March 18th " Matches Mondays - 4pm! Begins March 30th Where:!KRA courts 5, 6, 7 Time:! Girls 4:00pm & Boys 5:00pm Registration Dates: Spring: March 18 & 25! Girls 4:00pm & Boys 5:00pm at KRA Intermediate Boys & Girls Ages 16 and under Intermediate tennis is a program, which offers juniors the opportunity to develop their individual and team tennis skills in a fun, yet competitive atmosphere. Juniors already have experience in match play and are continuing to develop their individual and team tennis skills. What:! 5 to 6-week session: Spring When: "Practices Wednesdays -! Begins March 19th " Matches Tuesdays - 4-4:30pm! Begins March 31st Where:!KRA courts 5, 6, 7 Time:! Girls 4:00pm & Boys 5:00pm Registration Dates: Spring: March 19 & 26! Girls 4:00pm & Boys 5:00pm at KRA Registration cost: $15.00 per person, which includes league play and balls. Make checks out to Kanawha Recreation Association. Register at KRA, court 5 on dates listed above. NEW - KRA shirts for players. Purchase shirts for $5.00 per player. Include the $5.00 on your check when you register your player. Sizes: Youth - S, M, L or Adult - S, M, L Team Volunteers-AKA Team Mom s: Volunteers are crucial to the success of our tennis teams. Matches cannot happen without parents or volunteers. Parent volunteers not only cheer on the team but also help run the event by calling the players for each match. WE NEED YOU! Each family is expected to volunteer to drive kids to matches, supply snacks and drinks for matches and to promote tennis etiquette on and off the courts. Volunteer sign-up sheets will be available during the registration for the Bantam and Intermediate teams. Each Bantam and Intermediate team needs a team parent/mom to help the tennis Pro coordinate the players for the matches. Whatever your talents and time allow, we have a volunteer slot for you. When everyone volunteers, we have efficient matches, we all pitch in to help the team, and we set a good example for our children. So please sign up during registration or on the registration form for these Bantam and Intermediate teams and be ready, willing, and able when you receive a call from our tennis coach, Del Moser. 2009 Spring Clinic Fee Schedule Session I: March 16th - May 1st (No clinics the week of April 6th) Session II: May 4th - June 12th Jamie Morgan will be conducting clinics for children and adults this Spring at Kanawha. Kanawha members will have first priority to reserve a space in the clinic until March 12, 2009. Space will be limited. Registration will then be expanded to non-members so that Jamie has an opportunity to fill up the clinics. Anyone wishing to register after the deadline date, will pay a late registration fee of $10.00 in addition to the registration fee. LADIES 3Pros-3Hours Tennis Clinic A power house clinic 3 hours of an intense workout with 3 Pros: Damian Sancilio, Pat Anderson and Jamie Morgan.
