RETAIL SUSTAINABILITY CONFERENCE 2014 SEPTEMBER 29 - OCTOBER 2 Hyatt Regency Minneapolis Minneapolis, MN INSIGHTS INNOVATION GROWTH ACCELERATING: RETAIL Title Sponsor: www.rila.org/rsc #RILARSC

ACCELERATING RETAIL I m excited to invite you the 2014 Retail Sustainability Conference, keynoted by Hubert Joly, CEO of Best Buy. We have redesigned our format for 2014, putting a spotlight on the future through breakthrough keynotes, future-focused workshops, high-impact microsessions, and deep-dive breakout sessions. This new format allows you to participate with other leading sustainability executives to discuss the challenges and opportunities of both today and tomorrow. Together with Forum for the Future, we have created future-focused workshops - a new, highly interactive format incorporating detailed scenarios about the future of retail. In the workshops, we will explore how to stimulate the retail industry to think long-term about the sustainability challenges it faces. In addition, traditional breakout sessions will focus on critical topics in three main tracks: environmental compliance, retail energy management, and sustainability. And rounding out the program are personal development workshops and offsite tours of local facilities that excel in sustainable practices - the 3M Innovation Center and Target Field. Look through this brochure. Check out the speakers, sessions, and additional activities. You ll see that this is no ordinary event. Then register you and your team to attend. Reserve your spot and be part of the conversation. Adam Siegel Vice President, Sustainability & Compliance Retail Industry Leaders Association Register at www.rila.org/rsc Unique Session Formats KEYNOTES From Best Buy CEO Hubert Joly to AeroVelo Co-founders Todd Reichart and Cameron Robertson, hear unique perspectives on C-suite s considerations for sustainability to innovations that take on the impossible. BREAKOUTS Focused on critical topics and broken down into three tracks--sustainability, Environmental Compliance and Retail Energy Management--breakout sessions go in depth into the pressing issues you face today. Led by retailers, you ll hear what s working and the current challenges of retail sustainability and compliance. ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES Head offsite to see sustainable practices firsthand at either the 3M Innovation Center or Target Field. Or stay onsite and participate in either a leadership workshop on Effectively Communicating Sustainability in Professional Settings or a change management workshop featuring Gap s Mindspark Process for Solving Systemic Sustainability Problems.

FUTURE-FOCUSED WORKSHOPS Building on RILA s extensive research and interviews, RILA and Forum for the Future worked with the retail sustainability community to identify the trends that will drive change in the retail industry over the next 20 years. These trends cover six categories: Technology, Demographics, Big Data and Transparency, New Consumption Patterns, Economics and Politics, and Resource Constraints. Using a futures lens, the trends that will have the greatest impact on retail were identified. These were further tested through interviews with experts in government, engineering, energy and global trade and have been woven together to develop futures-based scenarios. Conference participants will explore the full implications that the trends may bring to scenarios focused on Stores, Products & Value Chains or Consumers & Employees and see how businesses have used these scenarios to create change within their organizations. Exploring Retail s Future From 3-d printing to big data, ubiquitous retail to the sharing economy, a raft of new trends threatens to disrupt retail and create new risks and opportunities for the industry. Learn more about these trends as we introduce the Futures project. What if?
