6 Developing Radar to Understand and Manage External Risks General Session B: 9:45-11 am External risks can often be the biggest wild card that your company faces. While some of these can be monitored on an ongoing basis and risk responses developed, others seem to gain momentum quickly and overtake the business environment in unexpected ways. For example, New York City s 2006 regulation eliminating trans-fats in all commercially served food has had major ripple effects on the food and food service industries. But the reach of this kind of decision may extend beyond those areas. Longer term, health care providers and insurers could well be impacted by this type of trend.
