We will explre the majr theries in these realms and hw we can apply these theries t becme better teachers and learners. Curse Objectives Using the textbk, lecture, and curse cntent, students will be able t: 1. demnstrate the knwledge and ability t think critically abut educatinal psychlgy thery. 2. apply theries f educatinal psychlgy t the interpretatin f classrm practices and student behavir. 3. describe the basic principles f child and adlescent develpment and apply them t the classrm. 4. Graduate Students will create fact sheets t describe sme f the difficult issues children face in the schl system t assist them in their future wrk with parents, teachers, and students. COE Cnceptual Framewrk The desired future f the Cllege f Educatin (COE) at Flrida Internatinal University is ne in which candidates, faculty, and staff embrace the shared experiences f a diverse, internatinal, prfessinal learning cmmunity. The three majr utcmes becme the lens thrugh which each prgram rganizes learning experiences and cntributes t the visin and aim f the Cllege. The utcmes include: a) Unit Cntent Outcme: Stewards f the Discipline (Knwledge); b) Unit Prcess Outcme: Reflective Inquirer (Skills); and c) Unit Dispsitins Outcme: Mindful Educatr (Dispsitins). The desired perfrmance learning utcmes, r institutinal standards, f teacher candidates at the initial level are aligned with state and prfessinal standards (e.g., FEAPs, INTASC). Prgram Standards/Cmpetencies Cvered in this Curse This curse is aligned with the standards, principles, cmpetencies, and practices f the Interstate New Teacher and Assessment Cnsrtium (INTASC) and the Flrida Educatr Accmplished Practices (FEAP). Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Supprt Cnsrtium Standards (INTASC) Principle 2: The teacher understands hw children learn and develp, and can prvide learning pprtunities that supprt their intellectual, scial, and persnal develpment. Principle 3: The teacher understands hw students differ in their appraches t learning and creates instructinal pprtunities that are adapted t diverse learners.

Principle 5: The teacher uses an understanding f individual and grup mtivatin and behavir t create a learning envirnment that encurages psitive scial interactin, active engagement in learning, and selfmtivatin. Flrida Educatr Accmplished Practices (FEAPs) Accmplished Practice 5: Acceptance and Fstering f Diversity: The pre-prfessinal teacher establishes a cmfrtable envirnment which accepts and fsters diversity. The teacher must demnstrate knwledge and awareness f varied cultures and linguistic backgrunds. The teacher creates a climate f penness, inquiry, and supprt by practicing strategies such as acceptance, tlerance, reslutin, and mediatin. Expectatins fr perfrmance in an nline curses are the same as fr traditinal curses; in fact, nline curses require a degree f self-mtivatin, selfdiscipline, and technlgy skills that can make them mre demanding fr sme students. Online curses are nt independent study curses. Yu will be expected t interact nline with the prfessr and yur fellw students; t d assignments; t meet deadlines; and in many classes, t wrk in virtual grups. ASSIGNMENT DETAILS Syllabus/Website Quiz During the first week f the semester, yu will take a quiz based n the curse requirements. Yu will have tw 1-hur attempts t take this quiz. The games will help prepare yu fr the exams. Yu will earn 1 pint fr each crsswrd puzzle fr a ttal f 12 pints. Games are due n Sunday at 11:59pm f the week in which they are assigned. The system tracks yur participatin (behind the scenes). Exams Three nline exams (20 pints each) will be given; the lwest grade will be drpped. Yu will have 100 minutes t cmplete 60 multiple chice, matching, and true/false questins pertaining t the text bk and curse material. Yu are nly allwed ne attempt at each exam s d nt enter the exams until yu are ready t take them. Yu will see yur grade after the due date and time which always falls n Sunday at 11:59pm (except EXAM 3). Imprtant infrmatin regarding exams: Exams have time limits; all questins must be answered and submitted befre the time expires. When the time has run ut, the exam is submitted autmatically with whatever answers have been saved at that pint. Be aware f the availability windw n exams. Fr example: If yur exam is available frm 7am - 7pm and yu have 1 hur t cmplete the exam; yu wuld need t start yur exam at 6pm in rder fr yu t have the full hur. If yu start at 6:20 then yu will nly have 40 minutes t cmplete yur exam. Fr this curse, all exams are due at 11:59 n Sunday except Exam 3 which is due Wednesday. Article Critique Taskstream Paper Yu will be asked t demnstrate yur understanding f the curse cntent thrugh a TaskStream written assignment in which yu will apply the thery yu have learned during the curse t scenaris depicted in a vide yu will see in class. The state f Flrida requires that yu receive a passing grade n this assignment t pass the class. If yu d nt pass this assignment, yu will be allwed ne rewrite. Yu will submit this paper thrugh TaskStream. The State f Flrida requires that thse seeking certificatin r a prfessinal degree in a Cllege f Educatin demnstrate their ability t understand and apply the Flrida Accmplished Educatr Practices

(FEAPS) by develping an nline prtfli f the cursewrk they have cmpleted. Each curse in the Cllege thus has an TaskStream assignment that satisfies a different set f FEAPs requirements. Yu must successfully cmplete these assignments with a passing grade befre the curses can be used t meet yur degree r certificatin requirements. The TaskStream assignment yu cmplete in this curse, an analysis f preschl in three cultures, will demnstrate yur understanding f FEAPs 5, 7, and 9 althugh yu d nt need t discuss them explicitly.
