3M Cloud Library for Wyoming: User Guide for PC/MacOS April 2015 How to Use 3M Cloud Library *These instructions are for users who wish to read on a computer or transfer books to an ereader. See the help files for mobile apps for reading on a device like an ipad or Android tablet. What is available and what are the circulation settings? Users may check out 5 books at a time for 14 days each. Books can be returned early. Books may only be checked out by one person at a time. Users can place up to 5 holds at a time. (five days to claim a title on hold before it moves on to the next person in the queue.) Books may be read on up to six different devices. Books can t be renewed, but they can be checked out again if available. The WYLD Shared Purchases Committee and several other libraries work together to continue to build the ebook collection. This collection is intended to provide access to best sellers and other popular content. It is important to be aware that some publishers of best sellers and major authors do not sell ebooks to libraries or consortia. For more information about the Cloud and the latest announcements, visit http://gowyld.net/econtent/cloudlibrary/ Getting Started *You must have a WYLD library card and PIN Contact your local library if you do not know your PIN or need to get a library card. Go to http://ebook.3m.com/ to download the reading apps or browse the collection at http://ebook.3m.com/library/wyominglibraries/ For the best experience, you should install Adobe Digital Editions on your computer (if transfering to devices) and register a personal Adobe ID Help with Adobe IDs is available on the GoWYLD website at http://gowyld.net/econtent/adobe.html 3M will detect an existing Adobe ID on a PC or device and will use it by default. If there is no Adobe ID, then 3M will provide one. This ID can interfere with registered devices, so it is still best to use a personal Adobe ID. New devices may need to be activated with Adobe Digital Editions and an Adobe ID to work properly.

Installing the PC or Mac Software Go to http://ebook.3m.com/ and click on the button for the PC or Mac App. This opens a page with more specifications about the software, including supported operating systems, readers, memory and more. Click on Download App then choose to save the file and run the install program when the download is complete. During the installation you will need to select the US, the state of Wyoming and Wyoming libraries. Enter your library card and PIN. Your library card must be current and in good standing to complete this process. You will need to agree to the End User License Agreement. Once the application has been installed, a desktop shortcut will appear labeled 3M Cloud Library.

Using the PC Software Navigation The application has five tabs. Featured, Browse, Search, My Books, and ebook (once a book is checked out and being read) The Featured view shows a selection of books in popular categories. To see more in the collection, click on the browse button to browse categories or use the search tab. The Featured view: Clicking on Show all makes it easy to see the availability of each book. Clicking on any book on the shelf will open a popup window with additional information. If a book is available, the green Borrow button will appear. If it is not available, you may place a hold. You may also click on the similar books tab to see books like this one. The similar books feature may include books that are not owned in the collection. Users can also create a wish list that library staff can view to help make purchasing decisions.

The Browse tab groups books by subject areas based on publisher supplied information. You can view all in a category or keep clicking on the subcategories shown until a list view appears. Limit the browse view to books that are available for checkout by clicking on the Filter button and selecting Available Now. Sort lists of books by clicking on the Sort By option in any list view. (Sort by title, author, rating, and date order)

The SEARCH tab is a keyword only search. Search results are presented in List View. Limit search results to titles that are available by clicking on the Filter button and selecting Available Now. Remember to change this option back if you want to see the entire results list. The MY BOOKS tab will show all the books you have checked out and those that you have on hold in a bookshelf view (you can also switch to a list view). The remaining time for the checkout period will show under each book on the shelf. Click on the List View button to show options for returning a book. Clicking on a Currently Reading title will open at the page last viewed in the EBook tab. Your hold list will show items that are available for check out and the estimated wait for any holds. The Suggestion List button will include books that you have placed on your wish list. The Reading History option is enabled by default, but you can delete the reading history at any time.

The Message Center is for messages sent out from the administration site. This is where notifications will display if a hold is available for checkout (as well as in the My Books screen). The Account Profile button gives you the option of logging out of your account and for opting in for email notification when holds become available for checkout. *You may want to log out if you are sharing a computer with someone else and do not have multiple Windows user accounts. If you have multiple users reading different books on the same computer, you can install the software under each user s unique Windows account. Using the PC Software Reading Click on any book from the Currently Reading shelf to open it in a reading view.

The menu on the top right allows you to view the detailed information about the book (lowercase i ), control the font size, search within the text and create bookmarks Arrow indicators on the left and right allow you to page through the book. The first time a book is opened, and there are no existing bookmarks, the icon on the right will appear as an empty square. To bookmark any page, click on the bookmark icon, enter any additional text and then click Save. When you are on a page that has been bookmarked, the icon will look like a yellow post-it note. To see all your bookmarks and notes for a particular book, click on the lowercase i from the menu options on the EBooks tab. You can manage bookmarks from the detailed book information level or delete individual bookmarks from the page view. Since this information is stored in the Cloud, your bookmarks and notes should reappear if you ever check out the same book again. Bookmarks created on an ereading device after transfering will not be synched with bookmarks created using the PC software. At left is the view from the book info screen. Right click on an entry to delete the bookmark and/or note. Bookmarks automatically add a bit of text from the page bookmarked. Notes replace the auto-generated text with your own text.

Using the PC Software Transfering to a device To transfer to a compatible ereader, connect the device, e.g. Nook, to your computer with the USB cable. The 3M software will automatically recognize the ereader and it will show as a detected device in the My Books tab. To complete the transfer, click on the Transfer to device button that appears on the cover of the book on the shelf. A message will indicate that the book has been transferred. Disconnect your ereader using the USB disconnect option and begin reading the book. If your ereader is not detected by the 3M PC software, please check the help files for troubleshooting tips at http://gowyld.net/econtent/cloudlibrary/help/ A Note about Kindles. Kindle Keyboard and Paperwhite models are not compatible with this service. The 3M app can be installed on a Kindle Fire or Kindle Fire HD. Another ereading app such as the OverDrive app can also be used to read books that have been transferred onto the Fire from the PC. Find instructions at http://gowyld.net/econtent/cloudlibrary/help/ Using the PC Software Returning a book, removing files You are encouraged to return books early when you have finished so that another user may enjoy the book. Books can be returned using any of the 3M apps. Any time you are viewing the detailed information of a book, you have the opportunity to 'Check In' the title. You can also see the Check In button when using the list view in the My Books tab.

Deleting a book from a device, e.g. Nook or Sony reader. Open Adobe Digital Editions, then connect the reader to your computer with its USB cable. Go to the Library View and click on the reader's name (beneath the bookshelves). You will see a list of books that you have downloaded the device. Click the small triangle to the left of the title, then select 'Delete item'. Devices may also include library management software that will allow you to delete directly from the device. Using the PC Software Updates The PC and Mac software will automatically search for and apply updates when they are available. Need More Help? Visit http://gowyld.net/econtent/cloudlibrary/help/ for the most up to date information about using the Cloud Library.
