Our key industries include transport, infrastructure, mining, telecommunications, commercial development and education. FODC was established in 2005 and has experienced exceptional growth, driven by highprofile projects including the Sydney Harbour Bridge communications upgrade, installation of the fibre optic communications network for Sydney s Lane Cove Tunnel, the National Broadband Network roll-out, exchange wiring for Telstra s Next G project, and design and installation of networks at Illawarra and Hunter Valley mines. As well as large-scale projects, FODC delivers a diverse range of small to medium projects such as network extensions within schools which can be as small as a single school building or interaction for an entire campus. Emergency call-out work includes repairs to fibre optic connections for CCTV surveillance systems at significant government sites, and other critical network infrastructure. Innovation FODC prides itself on researching and introducing innovative techniques and products to deliver the best result for the customer. Innovative solutions have included: A new technique for stripping fibre optic cable, which has dramatically reduced the time taken to perform this operation; The introduction of pre-terminated armoured cables made into manageable lengths, greatly simplifying installation and repair work in difficult environments such as mines; The introduction of ruggedized military specification cables and plugs on longwall mining equipment. These cables were first used by the military in the Iraq War, where 5

they were hung on the underside of helicopters and flown across the desert for kilometres, giving secure high speed communications between bases. FODC adapted them to the Australian mining environment, where they greatly reduce shutdown time for repairs and minimise occupational health and safety issues.
