Appendix 2 Asia Pacific Region Workshop on Educational Programme and Adult Training, Learning and Development 7-13 December 2015 Baguio, Philippines LOGISTICS INFORMATION Currency The unit of currency is the peso (PHP), divided into 100 centavos. Banknotes in wide circulation come in denominations of 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 pesos. The most common coins are 1, 5 and 10 pesos. ATMs are widely available and credit cards are accepted at hotels, restaurants and some shops in all but remote areas. Tipping: A 10% service charge is automatically added to the bill at some restaurants, but leaving a little extra is always appreciated (perhaps PHP40 to PHP50 per person if service is not included). Be aware that no person is allowed to enter or leave the Philippines carrying more than 10,000 of coins and banknotes without prior authorisation by Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. Those who have not gained prior authorisation will have to declare the excess money at the customs desk. However bringing-in any amount in foreign currency is legal but anything in excess of USD10,000 (or its equivalent) must be declared. Money exchange It is advised that you change to PHP prior to coming to the Philippines or change to local currency when you arrive at Manila airport. It might be challenging for you to change to local currency once we reach the training centre and the programme schedule will not allow you to go out to exchange money. The only other currency that would be recognised in rare cases would be the US Dollar, which is typically used in duty free outlets, internet transactions and overseas travel products sold in the Philippines. Power Electricity in Philippines is 220V, with a frequency of 60hz. Type of plug normally used is the US type as below. Participants are advised to bring own travel adapter should you wish to charge your devices. Temperature Baguio: The average temperature is from 15-26 C, and it can drop down to 8 C from December to early February. It is advisable to bring some clothes to keep 6

yourself warm especially in the evening. Manila: Manila has hot, humid weather all year round and the city's proximity to the equator ensures that the temperature range is small, rarely dropping below 20 C and seldom rising above 38 C. It is a little cooler between November and February. Telecommunications WiFi connection is available in each guest house at Ating Tahanan Training Centre. Pre-paid sim cards are available easily. If you wish to purchase a local pre-paid sim card, it is advisable to do this at the airport especially if you are arriving on the same day as the departure to Baguio. Example of pre-paid sim cards in Philippines: https://www.globe.com.ph/international/traveling-in-the-philippines/travelersim/travelsurf Medication Food Attire during event Participants are responsible to bring own medications that are essential for yourself. Please also bring the doctor s prescription especially for controlled medicines. We will try our best to prepare meals suitable for your dietary requirements.
