The Newsletter of Hampton Park Primary School Email: HamptonPark.PS@education.wa.edu.au Hamersley Avenue, Morley WA 6062 Website: www.hamptonparkps.wa.edu.au Phone: (08) 9276 3044 Fax: (08) 9276 4652 Issue 5-2 nd March 2016 Dear Parents, Students and Staff, We are almost at the half way point of the term! I continue to be impressed by how smart the students look in their new shirts. I understand that the P&C is waiting on the arrival of a new order to meet the demand which is a credit to our parents for actively embracing the new design. Important Dates 7 Mar Labour Day Holiday 8 Mar School Development Day (students do not attend) 16 Mar Harmony Day Next week is a short week for the students, with Monday a public holiday and Tuesday a School Development Day for the teaching staff. The School Development Days are important days as they allow the staff to undertake professional development. Harmony Day 16 th March On Wednesday 16 th March we will be celebrating Harmony Day. On this day we recognise the many different cultures that are represented throughout our school community. We would like all children to wear their national costume or wear orange, as this is the colour of Harmony Day. Room 1 will present the Harmony Day assembly at 9am, during which time children will parade in their traditional costumes. All parents are welcome. This year s Harmony Day activity, involves each teacher choosing a different country for the children to learn about. These activities will run until lunch time. We invite parents to join their children for a picnic lunch. Following lunch we will be having an African Drumming Incursion which parents are more than welcome to stay for (1:30-2:30). More information to follow. Northlink I would like to thank all the parents that attended the John Holland / Main Roads presentation on Monday. I am sure you will agree the school has managed to negotiate a very good outcome. I would like to acknowledge the efforts of the Board and the P&C in helping achieve such a good outcome. Car Park By now you will have noticed that the parking along Paine Road is completed (with the exception of some line marking). Parents are able to use this parking when dropping and collecting students, in addition to the Kiss n Ride car park. I would like to remind parents to exercise caution when using the car parks, please drive slowly and keep an eye out for children. Library This year we are fortunate to have Mrs Roberts and Mrs Kennett working in our school library. The library will continue to be available two lunch times a week to allow children to play games and read books. For year 1-3 their lunch day is Tuesday, whilst for students in years 4-6 it will be Thursday of each week. Expression of interest for Auskick next term. This 6 week season would run on Wednesday Afternoons, perfect for those who can't commit to the full Auskick 20 week season! PP - Year 3 boys and girls. Cost $50 includes Auskick Backpack (footy, drink bottle, hat, posters/cards etc) and run by East Perth WAFL coordinators. We would need a minimum of 10 kids to run the program. Please fill out the form below and return it to the office ASAP so we can lock it in. Thanks to the 4 families who have already indicated their interest.

P&C News Welcome to the new P&C for 2016. My name is Terry Bingham and I will be the president for 2016. During the AGM on Monday we started to form the Executive team and the committee. We had some positions that were not filled at the AGM, but since then have had a good response to fill those positions. As soon as they are all finalised, I will introduce you to our new team. Like previous years, 2016 is looking to be both busy and exciting for the P&C and our school. One of the first contributions we will be making is the bike path in the Early Childhood area. Watch this space! We will also be having our usual fundraising events, including a Morley Bunnings Sausage Sizzle on Sunday 20 th March (put your name down on the form in the office if you can help out), and our annual Easter raffle is not far away. We are looking to continue to improve and innovate the canteen to ensure it has good and healthy lunch options for our kids. Thanks in advance for everyone that manages to help out throughout the year and contribute to our great school and to the education and experience for our children. If you are not sure what the P&C is all about or would like to know how you can help out (regardless whether a lot or a little) please contact me directly via the P&C email info@hppspandc.org.au I am looking forward to the year and working with many of the parents, children and school teachers and staff. Terry Bingham Easter Raffle Can you believe we are talking Easter Raffle??? We are collecting donations of Easter related goodies for our Easter Raffle. Please send donations to your child s classroom by 22 nd March. Please take your tickets and money to your class teacher. We will be drawing prizes for each class, so please ensure your tickets are clearly labelled with your child s name and class. The more donations, the bigger the prizes at the class level. Voluntary Contributions Can we please remind all families that voluntary contributions are now due if you did not select the option of paying the fee with your booklist. Winter Uniform Pre-Order Winter jacket pre-order forms have been sent home today. Jackets will be delivered in term 2. Things heat up at the Ultimate Training Session The hot weather wasn t the only thing heating up at Domain Stadium on Tuesday afternoon, there was some serious football skills on show as ninety lucky winners completed the Ultimate Training Session with the West Coast Eagles, thanks to Hawaiian. The kids won the chance to enjoy a fun-filled afternoon of training with some of their favourite West Coast Eagles Players. The afternoon consisted of three different activities; a private tour of the club s facilities with Brownlow Medallist and Eagle favourite Matt Priddis, footy volleyball session with Kurt Mutimer and a competitive goal kicking session with Xavier Ellis. After a tiring session on the field and getting the players to sign a mountain of jerseys, posters and footballs, the little fans headed home with smiles from cheek to cheek.

It was awesome, very very very awesome said Cameron Ross, one of the participants from Booragoon Bulldogs Junior Football Club. Groups that participated included Booragoon Bulldogs JFC thanks to Melville Plaza, Hampton Park Primary School thanks to Noranda Shopping Village and Sacred Heart Primary School Highgate thanks to Hawaiian s Mezz. The next Ultimate Training Session is just around the corner and we cannot wait! For details on Hawaiian s community program or to enter for the next Ultimate Training Session click here-who knows, we may just be welcoming YOU!
