What is the VMware View Client? VMware View is a connection to a remote virtual PC. As well as using your desk PC, which currently supports Windows XP with Microsoft Office 2003, ICT Services now provide the option for you to use either Windows XP or Windows 7 with Microsoft Office combinations using this VMware Client\icon available on your desktop. Combinations you have available: Windows XP with Microsoft Office 2003 Windows XP with Microsoft Office 2007 Windows 7 with Microsoft Office 2010 3
How to run VMware View on an ipad Download VMware Client from the Apps Store 1. Locate the Apps icon on your desktop and double click this. 2. Search for VMware View for ipad and click to install How to connect 3. Locate the VMware View Client icon on your desktop and double click this. 4
4. You are then presented with the following screen, click on Add View Connection Server 5. Enter the following text into the host name box, mydesktop.candi.ac.uk 6. Enter your College username & password and select domain 5
7. Next you will be presented with the following window requesting you to choose your preferred Window and Office combination. Select your preferred option by double clicking on one of the options. 8. Once you have selected your preferred option you will see the following screen, let this continue. 9. Next you will see the ICT Acceptable Use Policy. Please read and click OK to accept. 6
10. You are then taken to your virtual desktop Note: the only software available is the Office application. Access to Internet is available; the same Internet security policies will apply here as would on your desk PC. 11. Select My Computer on your virtual desktop and you will see your network drives. 12. Should you leave VMware Client desktop idle for a 15 minutes the virtual desktop will lock itself. To login again you will need to click on the tab then select the Ctrl/page tab at the top 7
13. You will then see the following screen, click on ctrl 14. At the next screen you should then press Ctrl, Alt then Del 15. You will then see your details, click on your name to bring up the password box. 8
16. You will then need to click on the tab at the top, but this time select Keyboard; you can then enter your password to take you back to your virtual desktop. 17. Once you have finished using VMware client please log off by going to Start/Shut Down. 18. You will then see the following message, click done, you have now logged off from your virtual desktop. 9
How to run VMware View on a PC 1. In your Internet browser address bar type: https://mydesktop.candi.ac.uk and press enter 2. Click on View Client for Windows 3. The following page will appear, click on Go to downloads for your operating system, i.e. Windows 7 64bit. 10
4. Click on Download 5. In the bottom of your screen, click on Run 6. you will see the download screen 7. Run through the following set-up screens click next 11
8. Click next 9. Click Install 12
10. Tick I accept Terms and click next 11. Click on the arrow next to log in as current user and click on the red X to disable this feature 13
12. Enter mydesktop.candi.ac.uk and click next 13. Click Next 14

16. Click Finish 17. Click Yes to restart your PC 16
18. The VMware View Icon is now available as a shortcut on your desktop, double click on it to run 19. Double click on the desktop icon - NB: please be patient, this process can take a while when you log on the first time 20. Click OK you will then be logged into your desktop 17
You can now access MS office and email by going to Start All Programs Microsoft Office MS Outlook, your credentials will be recognised and email will already be configured You should also have access to all your network drives 18
How to run VMware View on a MAC 1. Open your internet browser and type https://mydesktop.candi.ac.uk in the address bar then press enter. 2. If you re doing this for the first time, a VMware view page like the one below will appear, from here click on the view client (6MB) link to download the file. 3. Open the download s folder and launch the VMware-viewclient.dmg, read and agree the licence agreement. 19
4. Open your applications folder which can be found in the lower right hand corner. 5. Copy the VMware View Client into the application folder. 20
6. Launch the VMware View Client application from the application folder, a pop up message will appear asking you to download additional software and at this point you need to click on download. 7. Your internet browser will automatically appear asking you to download the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac, click on Download. 21
8. Go to your downloads folder and open rdc201_all.dmg and launch the Remote Desktop Connection.mpkg file, continue with the installation which will install all of the nessesary components. 9. Return to your application folder and launch the VMware Client Application. 22
10. When the VMware View Client appears you need to enter the following in the address bar: mydesktop.candi.ac.uk and click on continue. 11. Enter your username and passwords that you would normally use to login to your college computer, select staff/student in the domain drop down box and finally click on continue. 12. Select the operating system that you would like to use and finally click on continue. 23
13. Click ok to the ICT Acceptance use Policy and you will be logged in, to get emails via MS Outlook, click on start > all programs > Microsoft Office > MS Outlook, it will recognise your credentials & retrieve your settings automatically. 24
