Eye-Fi Ad-Hoc network set-up instructions The Eye-Fi Pro Card gives you the option to upload with an Ad Hoc connection directly to your computer. This document provides instructions for setting up an Ad Hoc network in Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS X (v10.5.7 and above). What you need: 1. Windows Vista, Windows XP or Mac OS X (v10.5.7 and above). 2. Follow the instructions in the order presented. 3. NOTE: The instructions below covers Windows computers using the standard Windows network and Intel Proset wireless adapters. Users with other wireless adapters will need to consult their user manuals for instructions. Eye-Fi does not provide technical support for wireless adapters not mentioned in this document. 4. Be aware that some of the screens you see may not be identical to the screenshots in this document. Windows XP Determine your wireless adapter Eye-Fi supports Ad Hoc network connections via either the standard Windows wireless adapter and The Intel Proset Wireless adapter. You can easily tell which adapter you are using by looking for the active wireless icon in the Windows Task Bar. Windows wireless adapter A. If you see circled wireless icon below, you need to go to Set up an Ad Hoc network via the standard Windows wireless adapter on page 3. Intel Proset wireless adapter B. If you see the circled wireless icon below,, you need to go to Set up an Ad Hoc network via the Intel Proset wireless adapter on page 10. 2
Setup your Ad Hoc network via the standard Windows wireless adapter 1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. 3
2. Under Pick a category, click Network and Internet Connections. 3. Under or pick a Control Panel icon, click Network Connections. 4
4. Right click your wireless network connection, and then click Properties. 5
5. In the Wireless Network Connection Properties dialog box, click the Wireless Networks tab. 6
6. On the Wireless Networks tab, under Preferred networks, click Add. 7
7. In the Wireless network properties dialog box, on the Association tab, type the name of your Ad Hoc wireless network in the Network name (SSID) box. For example, you could name your wireless network MyHomeNetwork. 8. Uncheck the The key is provided for me automatically check box. 9. Select the This is a computer to computer (Ad Hoc) network check box. 10. Create a 13 digit password and type it in both the Network key and Confirm network key boxes. For the best security, include letters, numbers, and punctuation. 11. Click the OK button. 8
12. Click OK again to save your changes. You have now set up your Ad Hoc network which can be used by your Eye-Fi Pro Card after you add this network profile to it. 9
Setup your Ad Hoc network via the Intel Proset wireless adapter 1. Double click the green Intell Proset wireless icon in the Task Bar. 2. Click the Profiles button. 10
3. Click the Add button in order to add a new profile. 4. Enter a WiFi Network Name (SSID) that is all lowercase and one word to make it easy for you to type into the Eye-Fi Manager later. 5. Select the Device to Device (Ad Hoc) option radio button. 11
6. Select Security Settings from the left side of the window. 7. Select the Personal Security radio button. 8. Choose one of the Security Setting options. 9. If you choose something other than None, you will also need to enter a password according to the instructions in the WiFi Profile dialog box. 10. Click the OK button to complete creating your new Ad Hoc network profile. 12
11. Choose the new profile you created from the Profiles dialog box. 12. Click the Connect button to make sure the Ad Hoc network is active. 13. Click the Close button. You have now set up your Ad Hoc network which can be used by your Eye-Fi Pro Card after you add this network profile to it. 13
Windows Vista Setup your Ad Hoc network 1. Click the start Start button 2. Click the Connect To button. 14
3. Click the Set up a connection or network link. 15
3. Click on the Set up a wireless Ad Hoc option. 4. Click the Next button. 16
5. Enter a name for your network in the Network name field. 6. Select a Security type from the drop down menu. 7. Click the Save this network check box so it is available for you to activate later. 8. Click the Next button. You have now set up your Ad Hoc network which can be used by your Eye-Fi Pro Card after you add this network profile to it. 17
Mac OS X (10.5.7 and above) Setup your Ad Hoc network 1. Select the Wireless network icon in the Apple Menu Bar. 2. Select Create network from the drop down list. 3. Enter your new wireless network name and password. 4. Click the OK button and you Ad Hoc network will become active. 18
