FASN Annual Conference 2015 School Nurses: Leading the Way to a Healthier Generation The Nineteenth FASN Annual School Nurses Conference will be held at the Florida Hotel & Conference Center at the Florida Mall, 1500 Sand Lake Road, Orlando, FL 32809. This year s conference will enable School Nurses to obtain knowledge and skills in current issues that are impacting school nursing practice. Our conference presenters are skilled specialists in their respective fields. Share time with your school nurse colleagues and join together as we continue to move forward in School Nursing Practice in Florida. Up to 9.0 contact hours, plus 3 additional pre-conference hours will be given to nurses completing attendance requirements. Credit for the poster session requires reviewing posters, discussing content with their authors, and completing evaluation. Participants must invest at least one hour of conference time to posters to receive credit. Contact hours are provided through the Florida Department of Health in Polk County, Florida Board of Nursing Approved Provider Number NCE2832. Program Objectives The learner will: Preconference Sessions: 1. Describe the legislative purpose for the Nurse Practice Act 2. Verbalize specific laws and rules related to the practice of nursing 3. Identify the pertinent levels and general scope of nursing practice in the state 4. Differentiate between ethical and legal practice. 5. Discuss the process for discipline related to nursing practice 6. Develop self-awareness of his/her current leadership strengths to build a personal leadership philosophy 7. Boost leadership skills and strategies within the professional and academic arenas 8. Expand and clarify the leadership roles and support network of FASN Regional Representatives and County Liaisons General Conference Sessions: 1. Synthesize the powerful connections between school nursing and positive educational outcomes 2. Advance knowledge of recent and upcoming policy development to understand what is on the horizon in school health 3. Participate in a Q & A forum for professional school nurses to discuss current issues and trends 4. Collaborate within and among school nurses and their communities while developing effective strategies and opportunities for networking 5. Increase understanding of the indicators and management of food allergies in the school setting 6. Understand anaphylaxis physiology and management in schools, especially as it relates to epinephrine administration, and in the context of recent Florida legislation 7. Obtain facts school nurses can use with maintenance and administration decision makers to reduce the incidence and burden of disease in school settings 8. Expand knowledge of the scope and complexity of human trafficking, and recognize victim indicators 9.
