A Celebration of Excellence 9 th Annual Jazz Scholarship Jazz Brunch The Jazz Scholarship Awards Brunch presented by the Atlanta Tuskegee Alumni Club, will take place on Saturday, May 24, 2014 from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm at the Renaissance Concourse Hotel, One Hartsfield Center Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30354. This fundraising affair will provide scholarships for deserving students enrolled at Tuskegee University from the Metropolitan Atlanta area. It will also support the scholarship endowment fund established by the Atlanta Tuskegee Alumni Club at Tuskegee University. Scholarships are presented to both young men and young women. The scholarship recipients always attend the brunch. The celebration also pays tribute to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to society. Tickets for the 9th Annual Jazz Scholarship Jazz Awards: A Celebration of Excellence can be purchased at $65.00 each. The event, chaired and co- chaired by Nettie Perry and Crystal Mayfield Jones will note the accomplishments of the stellar honorees in the program. This is the time that we celebrate excellence. High School students will also have breakfast and lunch, take a tour of the campus, and attend scheduled events on the Yard. The cost is $50 per person. NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE 1 st Annual 2014 Tuskegee National Alumni Association s National Day of Service 2014 Tuskegee University Founder s Day April 5, 2014/Saturday Statement of Occasion: 1. Tuskegee University (TU) Founder and 1 st President, Booker Taliaferro Washington was born on April 5, 1856. He strongly believed in service. 2. A resolution was made and adopted during the 2012 Tuskegee National Alumni Association s (TNAA) Biennial Convention in New Orleans, LA, to have a Tuskegee Alumni Day of Service. 3. The date was chosen to pay tribute to President Washington s birthday and to promote Tuskegee Alumni service. 4. There are 50 TNAA Clubs and 7 Professional Organizations that will participate. Tuskegee University will participate. 5. TU Alumni, TU students, faculty, friends and everyone is encouraged to participate and support this effort. The Nursing Hall of Fame will serve as a means to provide recognition for individuals who have demonstrated exceptional accomplishments and made significant contributions to nursing and/or the healthcare field. Inductees may be living or deceased. The Nursing Hall of Fame is an official entity of the Department of Nursing. The Nursing Hall of Fame is governed by a Steering Committee which is comprised of Tuskegee Nursing Alumni and the Associate Dean and Director of the School of Nursing and Allied Health. A Selection Committee from this body established the criteria for selecting inductees. The first inductees will be honored at a black tie event on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the Kellogg Conference Center at Tuskegee University. This will become a biennial event whereby honorees will be inducted into the hall of fame.
Community News Edward Menifee a past graduate of Tuskegee University and a recipient of the 2007 ATAC Pioneer Award passed on February 7, 2014. Mr. Menifee was heavily involved in the past 25 years with encouraging our youth in the Atlanta Metro area to become entrepreneurs. Funeral arrangements have not been confirmed. Please keep the Menifee family in your prayers.
