Soignons les mots 2008-2009 REGISTRATION DOCUMENT French as a second language

Soignons les mots Dear friends, September is just around the corner. As we begin the new school year, I am pleased to invite you and your students, once again, to take part in La Dictée P.G.L., the grand celebration of the French language, sharing and solidarity. This 18th edition of the project will focus on health. Of course, we will discuss physical activity, nutrition, prevention and healthcare, but throughout the activities, we will also examine the links between health and education and culture and the environment, and tackle some of the ethical questions that inevitably arise in this area. Young and old will undoubtedly find topics of interest to them. Please join the thousands of teachers from around the world so that together, we can help to ensure the health of the French language - in a healthy world. We hope to see you there! Paul Gérin-Lajoie Founding President Paul Gérin-Lajoie Foundation

A unique educational project La Dictée P.G.L. is a great educational project designed for elementary school students, in both French and French as a second language classes, from kindergarten to 8th grade. The project has three fundamental objectives: Help students improve their mastery of written French; Heighten their environmental awareness, and Introduce children to international realities. The project consists of: an international dictation contest for 5th and 6th grade students, with local level competitions for the other grades; a collaborative activity entitled La Cueillette du partage P.G.L., to raise funds for participating schools and to help children in developing countries gain access to education; other contests for students at all grade levels and their teachers. The organizers La Dictée P.G.L. is organized by the Paul Gérin-Lajoie Foundation. For over 30 years, the Foundation has contributed to providing basic education for children, promoting adult literacy in the world s poorest countries, and to building awareness of international realities among Canadian elementary school students. The process Taking part in La Dictée P.G.L. is easy. Once registered, all you have to do is: complete the educational activities with your students; introduce them to vocabulary; administer the dictations and collect the funds,* and participate in the contest and register one student for the regional level competition. * It is also possible to participate in the project without taking part in the fundraiser. Schools must simply make a $3 contribution per student. Contests Schools that register all of their classes and submit their donations before March 20, 2009, will automatically be entered in La cour d école Hydro-Québec contest, in which they can win $12,000 towards the purchase of new playground equipment for their schoolyard. The name of one teacher whose students take part in La Grande Finale internationale 2008-2009 will be drawn at random for free registration at the 2009 Congrès de l AQEP (Association québécoise des enseignantes et des enseignants du primaire), including lodging, valued at $1,000. All teachers, from kindergarten through eighth grade, whose students take part in La Dictée P.G.L. and who register online for the Gagner un congrès contest, will be entered to win free registration at the 2009 Congrès de l AQEP, valued at $350.
