ADVANCED COURSE SLEEP DISORDERS FOR THE PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT OR NURSE PRACTITIONER October 18 19, 2014 AASM National Office Darien, IL COURSE DESCRIPTION This one-and-a-half-day course will provide physician assistants and advanced practice registered nurses with an in-depth look at diagnosing, treating and managing sleep disorders through case-based clinical lectures. Also, this course will provide an overview of the role of the APRN and PA in a sleep medicine. TARGET AUDIENCE This course is intended for physician assistants and advanced practice registered nurses with 2-4 years of sleep experience who are seeking to advance their practice in sleep medicine. The airports nearest to the AASM national office are O Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport. O Hare is approximately 23 miles from the office. Midway is approximately 18 miles from the office. Should you choose to take a taxi, we recommend that you do not pick-up a taxi outside of the baggage claim exit as these taxis will charge at a rate 1 ½ times the metered rate to take you to the hotel. Rather, after you pick-up your baggage at the airport, contact American Taxi at (847) 673-1000. Taxi service to and from the airport is approximately $40.00 each way, not including gratuity. Please anticipate 30-40 minutes for travel time to and from either airport. MEALS Meals provided by the AASM are available for registered attendees only; guests of attendees will not be permitted to participate in meal functions. Any specific dietary needs must be made at the time of registration. Every effort will be made to accommodate attendees, but the AASM cannot guarantee all requests can be met. AASM staff will follow up to discuss options and instructions. RECORDING Photographing and/or recording, of any kind, of sessions and speakers at the course is strictly prohibited. ELECTRONIC MATERIALS The AASM will provide course materials only in electronic format. Attendees will be provided with a thumb drive containing course materials at the course. Prior to the course, attendees will be allowed to download and print, if preferred, course materials. The course will be submitted to the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners for 12.00 nurse practitioner continuing education contact hours. The course will be submitted to the American Academy of Physician Assistants to request 12.00 hours of AAPA Category 1 CME credit from the Physician Assistant Review Panel. Total number of approved credits yet to be determined. CONFIRMATION AND REGISTRATION DISCLAIMER Registration is limited. Please register early. CANCELLATION POLICY Written notification must be submitted to the AASM meeting department for registration cancellation. A $50 administrative fee will be withheld on cancellations postmarked prior to Friday, September 26, 2014 for the Sleep Disorders for the Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner course. After that date, no refunds will be available. Refunds are not provided to no-shows. The AASM reserves the right to cancel this course and provide a full refund should conditions warrant. WEATHER CANCELLATION POLICY In the event that a registrant is unable to attend a course due to severe weather forcing airline cancellations or airport closures, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine will apply 50 percent of the individual s registration fees toward another AASM course (excluding the SLEEP meeting) held within 12 months. Registrants will need to provide documentation from the airport or airline confirming the inability to travel due to severe weather within 30 days following the course. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine will not apply this policy to the SLEEP meeting, as the length and nature of the meeting allows for registrants to attend a portion of the event regardless of severe weather. REGISTRATION CATEGORIES AASM MEMBERS To register as a member, the registrant must currently be an individual member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). If the AASM is unable to confirm that the individual is a member of the AASM, the individual will be registered as a nonmember at the prevailing fees. AASM CENTER MEMBER STAFF To register as an employee of an AASM center member (maximum of four registrants), the registrant must be currently employed at an active member sleep center of the AASM. If the AASM is unable to confirm the center as an active member of the AASM, the individual will be registered as a nonmember at the prevailing fees. NONMEMBERS Join and save! The AASM PQRSwizard program is a convenient and cost-effective tool to help collect and report quality measure data for the CMS PQRS. The program works similar to online tax preparation software helping you collect, validate, report and submit your information to CMS. WHY IS 2014 REPORTING IMPORTANT? Reporting your 2014 PQRS Measures will determine if you will receive an incentive of 0.5% in 2014. It will also determine if you will receive a penalty of 2% in 2016. Meaning, those physicians who elect not to participate during the 2014 program year, CMS will impose a 2% payment penalty in 2016.
