EARLY SIGNINGS HELP BOOST STOWMARKET STOWMARKET TOWN manager Rick Andrews has said that recruitment for next season 'couldn't have gone any better' after some early signings. The Old Gold and Blacks have already begun building their squad for the 2014/15 campaign, which has included an agreed deal with Whitton United's Josh Capocci. "We've been very busy," said the Stow boss. "I'm encouraged with the players that have come on board so far. "They are here for the right reasons and want to help continue the progress that we're making at the club." Thetford Town's Nathan Birch rejoined Stow for a second spell last week and joined Capocci as another Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division player to take the step down to the First Division. "It was hard convincing some of the players to drop down a level," said Andrews. "But what I explained to them was that sometimes you have to take a step back to take two steps forward." In his first full season in charge at the Greens Meadow-based outfit, Andrews guided Stow to 14th in the First Division table and also a quarter-final appearance in the First Division Knockout Cup. "We did better last year, which does help attract in new players," said the Stow boss. "And when you add Premier players it makes people notice us, including other potential players." Former Stow striker Chris Gray confirmed his return to the club in a busy week that also saw last season's top goalscorer Wayne Proctor commit for another season. Proctor marked his first season back at Stow by scoring 18 goals in 28 games for the Old Gold and Blacks last season. "I've learnt a lot in the last 12 months," said Andrews. "My eyes were opened as to what type of players I needed to bring in to the club. "It's about getting players that have the right attitude, character and want to work as a team to help move forwards." Last season's Player of the Year Carl Widdowson and striker Remell Davis have also agreed to stay this week. "We've also got some exciting under-18s players coming to the club which I'm looking to involve in the first team," said Town's manager. "I couldn't have asked for any better from how the last few weeks have gone. "The signs are looking good to continue to progress next season." Stowmarket Town Football Club are looking for youth players of all ages to join their current teams for the up and coming 2014/15 season. This opportunity is open to both boys and girls aged between 5 and 16 years who would like to come and train/play with one of our teams.if you would like more information give Simon a call on 07833 556811.
