Using Your ipad to Borrow EPUB ebooks from the Public Library http://nh.lib.overdrive.com Things to know before getting started: Your local public library must be a member of the New Hampshire Downloadable Books Consortium. See the listing: http://nh.lib.overdrive.com/libraries.htm You will need a library card number and, in some cases, additional information to log into the NH Downloadable Books site (NHDB). Check with your local librarian to make sure you have access to the collection. All Adobe EPUB and Open EPUB ebooks are compatible with the OverDrive Media Console app. The OverDrive Media Console app can be installed on ipads, ipod Touches, iphones, as well as Android phones and most popular Android tablets. These instructions generally apply to Android devices too. Many, but not all, of the same devices that are compatible with the OverDrive Media Console app and can be used to download and read all of the OverDrive READ ebooks in the collection. Installing the OverDrive Media Console app Using the App Store app on your ipad, search for OverDrive Media Console. Install the app. If you don t already have an Adobe ID, you ll be prompted to get one when you open the app. Authorize the app with your Adobe ID. Note that the OverDrive Media Console app is available for a wide variety of smart phones and tablets! These instructions generally apply to: All ios (Apple) devices, Android phones, most Android tablets, Nook tablets, Kindle Fire, and other smart phones that have a version of the app.
Signing into the Site and Browsing for an EPUB ebook Click on the Sign In link in the upper-right corner. Select your public library and provide your card number and prefix or PIN, if required.
From the gray menu, select a category from ebooks... Sort the titles by Available Now to see titles ready to check out now. Note that the light-gray shadow of the book icon indicates that the book is checked out. A darker gray icon means the title is available to borrow now. Consider filtering the results by Adobe EPUB or Open EPUB ebook format to give the best results... Adobe EPUB titles have Digital Rights Management (DRM) and requires you to authorize the OverDrive Media Console app with a free Adobe ID. The Open EPUB ebooks do not include DRM. Both formats use the OverDrive Media Console app to download and read the ebooks.
Click on a book cover to learn more about the title and/or start to checkout process. Double-check that the book is available in EPUB and click the Borrow button. The Borrow button now reads Go to Bookshelf. Your bookshelf contains the ebooks and audiobooks you currently have checked out. You can always get to the bookshelf from your account. The icon for the account is shown at the top of the page.
Use the drop-down to select the EPUB format and confirm the selection. The OverDrive Media Console app opens automatically. The app will prompt you to register the app with a free Adobe ID, if you haven t yet done so. You must register the app before you can read the Adobe EPUB ebooks.
Note the additional settings available through: Get Books + button >> Settings (bottom of the screen)... Authorize (or deauthorize) the app with an Adobe ID Enable or disable cellular download -- important for large audiobook files! Social settings options can be found here. On the Android app, look for a Settings option. Reader Settings Once the book opens, tap in the center of the screen to see your options. Click on the small Aa or Tools icon for more reader options...
Returning the EPUB ebook The ebooks are automatically returned to the collection after 14 days, but the Adobe EPUB ebooks can be returned early from the app itself. Note that Open EPUB titles cannot be returned to the collection early. They will expire at 14 days. Return to the app s Bookshelf... Tap the small plus sign. Select Return/Delete. Be sure to return then delete. Enjoy reading library books on your ipad!
