PROGRAM Day 1 Meeting with the guide and departure by bus to Arnhem. Arrival in Arnhem and visit to the Dutch Open Air Museum. People in the museum look like they just stepped out of the past. This museum catches history. In old buildings, objects and true stories. The museum guides you on a time travel, before two centuries until recent times. The museum is very much alive, in the yards, in the farms and the wind mills, the farmer café and the shops. Optional lunch Continuation to the hotel. Arrival at the hotel and end of the services of the guide and driver. Free time. Dinner at the hotel. Day 2 Meeting with the guide and departure to Groesbeek. Visit to the Liberation Museum, which elaborates on Operation Market Garden, the largest airborne operation in history took place here in September 1944 and Operation Veritable, the Rhineland Offensive, the final road to freedom in Europe, started from here in February 1945. The museum brings the historical events of the liberation by the American, British, Canadian and Polish troops back to life. In the museum, you live through the period preceding the war, experience the occupation, celebrate the liberation and witness the rebuilding of the Netherlands and Europe after the war. Aromas, interactive presentations, diorama s, models, original films and sound fragments captivatingly depict the liberation. The museum shows both young and old the current value and importance of democracy, freedom and human rights. Lunch (in the surroundings of Groesbeek and Oosterbeek). Visit to the Airborne museum in Oosterbeek. Experience the Battle of Arnhem in this modern and very appealing museum. The Airborne Experience allows you to follow in the footsteps of British parachutists as they make their way to Arnhem in September 1944 and to meet the cheering citizens who had been oppressed by the German occupiers for four long years. But the bridge at Arnhem was a `bridge too far. Departure for the Battlefield Tour. This tour of 55 kilometres by car, guides you to all historical places around the battle of Arnhem and brings back the memories of the Strike of Arnhem. The strike of Arnhem in 1944, was part of Operation Market Garden. The allies wanted to conquer the bridges on the Maas-, Waal- and Rijn- river as soon as possible, to liberate the rest of Europe. Return to the hotel. Arrival at the hotel and end of the services of the guide. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 3 Meeting with the guide and departure to Apeldoorn Visit to Paleis t Loo The palace was a residence of the House of Orange- Nassau from the 17th century until the death of Queen Wilhelmina in 1962. Since 1984, the palace is a state museum open for the general public, showing interiors with original furniture, objects and paintings of the House of Orange-Nassau. Lunch at the palace Departure to Loenen Visit to war cemetery Loenen nearby Apeldoorn. This war cemetery is a monument, but this area also offers several monuments. Here you won t find white crosses in straight lines, but the graves are placed in curved lines along the forest paths, marked by simple and lying stones. Almost 3700 people, military people, but above citizens are buried here. Continuation to Den Bosch. Arrival at hotel in Den Bosch and end of the services of the guide. Free time to explore the historic city centre of Den Bosch. Free time for dinner Day 4. Meeting with the guide and departure to Kamp Vught. Visit Kamp Vught Herzogenbusch concentration camp was a Nazi concentration camp located in Vught near the city of 's-hertogenbosch. Herzogenbusch was the only concentration camp run directly by the SS in western Europe outside of Germany. The camp was first used in 1943 and held 31,000 prisoners. 749 prisoners died in the camp, and the others were transferred to other camps shortly before the camp was liberated by the Allied Forces in 1944. After the war the camp was used as a prison for Germans and Dutch Collaborators. Today there is a visitors' center with exhibitions and a national monument remembering the camp and its victims.
Continuation to Amsterdam. Arrival in Amsterdam and lunch. City tour of Amsterdam; city of history, culture and inspiration. Guided orientation tour of Amsterdam by coach and on foot; the canals, the bridges, and the beautiful 17th and 18th century mansions along the canals. The Royal Palace on Dam square, the historic buildings along the Amstel River, the colorful flower market etc. Canal cruise by boat, the best way to see Amsterdam. Holland s capital has 100 canals and 1000 bridges. While cruising through the old city you will see elegant merchant's mansions, carillon-topped churches and warehouses dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries. Continuation to the hotel. Arrival at the hotel and end of the services of the guide. Dinner at the hotel (or close to the hotel) Day 5 Meeting with the guide and departure to the Anne Frank House. Visit to the Anne Frank house. Anne Frank was a Jewish girl, who had to hide for the Nazi s during WOII. When she was hiding in the back house, she kept a diary about her life. She and many other people hiding were discovered and deported to concentration camps. Lunch in the city center of Amsterdam Visit to the Jewish historical museum. This museum is the only museum in the Netherlands to focus on Jewish history, religion and culture. The museum is located in a group of four historical Ashkenazi synagogues at the heart of the former Jewish quarter in the center of Amsterdam. The permanent exhibition features the following themes: the role of religion and tradition, the links with Israel, the persecution of Jews during the Second World War, personal life stories and the mutual influence of Jewish and Dutch culture.
