2 23 MAY BILBAO-BARCELONA The meeting point will be the airport of Loiu (Bilbao) 90 minutes prior to departure. Check in and boarding on a scheduled flight to Barcelona. Arrival and transfer to the hotel. Free time. Accommodation. 24 MAY BARCELONA Breakfast. A full day visit will be paid to the city, taking in the so-called Olympic Ring with the Olympic Stadium and the Palau Sant Jordi arena. We will also see the Paseo de Gracia, the site of the world-famous Block of Discord, built by four of Barcelona's most important modernist architects: Luís Domènech I Montaner, Antoni Gaudì, Josep Puig i Cadafalch and Enric Sagnier. The landmark buildings include: Casa Lleó- Morera, Casa Mulleras, Casa Amatller and Casa Batlló. The tour will also include the Sagrada Familia, Gaudí s most emblematic work of art and icon of the city of Barcelona; the Gothic Quarter, with the Plaza del Rey, the Cathedral and the medieval palaces of Casa dels Canonges the Catalunian President official residence- and the PIa Almoina; and Las Ramblas, the symbolic street in the city centre which is animated and full of life quite simply, the best backdrop to feeling the essence of Barcelona. In the capital of Catalunya is a colourful show: passers by of every age and social condition, plenty of kiosks selling flowers, fruits or birds, the shoe shiner, the ornate fountain of Canaletas where we have to drink to become a Barcelona citizen, street theaters, supermarkets, coffee shops, terraces and theaters. 4 25 MAY MONTSERRAT SAN SADURNÌ d ANOIA Breakfast. Departure for a full day trip to Montserrat and San Sadurní d Anoia. Around 720 metres up the mountain of Montserrat lies the XI century Benedictine Monastery, where the image of Moreneta Virgin is venerated. The sanctuary of Montserrat has numerous examples of architectural and sculptural art works from internationally famous artists. Along with important cultural heritage accumulated during the century of the monastery, it is little wonder that Montserrat is seen as an Outdoor Museum. San Sadurní d Anoia is a city famous for its winery which produces cava, the internationally renowned sparkling wine. A visit will be paid to Cava Freixenet, a famous cava winery. After a short audiovisual introduction regarding the story of the company, the guided tour will start around the company which was built in The visitors will learn how cava is produced and how technology has been introduced, replacing the traditional method. The new facilities will also be visited by train. Finally, in the tasting room, the different sparkling wines from Freixenet will be presented and tasted. Lunch in a restaurant. Return to Barcelona. 5 26 MAY FIGUERAS AND GERONA Breakfast. Departure for a full day trip to Figueras and Gerona. In Figueras we will visit the Dalí Theatre and Museum, which is the biggest surrealist object in the world. It occupies the old theatre building, which was built in the 19 th century and bombed during the Spanish Civil War. The permanent collection comprises the single largest and most diverse collection of works by Salvador Dalí over various decades, housing more than 4000 art works with a great variety of techniques, materials and mediums: paint, drawings, sculptures, engravings, facilities, jewellery, holograms, pictures and stereoscopy, etc. Gerona has an important historical center where highlights include the Cathedral, with the Charlemagne Tower, the Arabic Baths, the City Hall and the Jewish Quarter.
