Une semaine de musique et de clubbing à Paris LES NUITS CAPITALES Paris Live Music & Clubbing Week Between the 17 th 21 st November Les Nuits Capitales (The Capital Nights) will dedicate 5 nights from 8.00 pm to dawn to the very best of live music and clubbing in the numerous premier venues of Paris and the surrounding metropolis. It s been conceived by the instigators of the appeal, Paris - When the night dies in silence united by the Association Nuit Vive and the network called MAP (the organisation that maps current music genres in Paris). Les Nuits Capitales event is devoted to bring colour and new life to the Paris night scene and also to remove barriers between music genres: soul, jazz, electronica, world music, hip-hop, rock and pop. Les Nuits Capitales is an invitation to encourage an exploration over the music and to discover artists, known and unknown. Moreover, it is a journey through the city to discover the many delightful and intriguing venues that come alive at nightfall. These ones are the cultural and social heart of Paris. During Les Nuits Capitales, all participating venues will offer exceptional evenings, special offers and entries at reduced price that will be accessible to customers who will register on the website www.nuitscapitales.com. Over the marketing aspect of this event, Les Nuits Capitales is committed to actively promote venues which embrace underground music. There will be a nightly celebration of popular, innovative music which is not part of the mainstream. It is not a coincidence that Les Nuits Capitales will take place a week after the General States of the Night organised by the Town Hall of Paris. The official programme and the website NUITCAPITALES.COM will be unveiled during a press conference in Paris s Town Hall, on Monday, September 20 at 6.30 pm. Below is an outline of the event and an introduction to the association Nuit Vive, the Network MAP and the main participants of the event. Les Nuits Capitales : a militant event No one could appreciate the full reach of Les Nuits Capitales without recalling the activism that constituted the basis of this event. It was instigated by an appeal - Paris When the night dies in silence - an open letter launched in November 2009. Since then, 16,000 people, including representative venues, artists, organisations and representative entities of the sector (unions, networks, etc.) have signed the letter. The support of the professionals and public, as well as the wide media coverage of the letter, in France and abroad, put the night and its political, social, cultural and economic relevance within the tourist sector back in the middle of public debate. This salutary awakening gave birth to two events: The General State of the Night (November 12 and 13, 2010) organised by the Town Hall of Paris and Les Nuits Capitales (November 17 to 21, 2010) organised by Nuit Vive and the Network MAP, therefore combining on the one hand a political debate and on the other hand a lively event celebrating the night in a festive way. Some may see a contradiction in raising a petition about the death of the night while organising an event to show its vitality. But the aim of the petition was to show the difficulties and tensions that weigh on the night, not to be its own gravedigger! If the Parisian s nightlife was dying who would be there to defend it? We have had enough of seeing the night who was dying in silence and decided to do something about it. We hope 2010 will be the year who will see the night becoming a living and breathing thing. The public, the artists, the professionals and the city itself need this vitality.

Les Nuits Capitales : Where? When? How? Les Nuits Capitales will take place on Wednesday November 17th Sunday 21st November 2010. Most of the time evenings events some will be on daytime in the form of lectures, showcases, public rehearsals, guided visits and forums on the night entertainment sector, etc. Venues The venues participating encompass everything from the grand and prestigious to the smaller music cafes, the famous mythical clubs to the cult underground ones. Large or small, new or historic, Les Nuits Capitales will bring together this vast diversity and unveil the richness of the night culture and musical practices in Paris. Altogether the venues will have the capacity to offer entertainment to 20,000 guests every evening. The e-ticket will be accessible to

patrons who register on the site www.nuitscapitales.com. We forecast 10,000 passes to be sold. Nuit Vive & the Network MAP Les Nuits Capitales is an event brought to you by the Association Nuit Vive ( Living Night ), a partnership of key professional organisations in the sector : CSCAD (www.cscad.fr) : The Union Chamber for Cabarets and Night Clubs. The CSCAD counts more than 600 members and represents almost all the venues featured in www.parisnightlife.fr as well as a large number of music bars. The CSCAD originated the website in 2009, a specialist portal for tourists on a city break. MAP (www.reseau-map.fr) : Network of contemporary music in Paris. The MAP groups together dozens of genres of music on the current scene. SNEG (www.sneg.org) : National Union of Gay Enterprises. It provides a service to 1800 businesses and professions in the gay and lesbian community in France. SNEG represents almost all the gay and lesbian night clubs in Paris. TECHNOPOL (www.technopol.net) : This association represents many organisers, labels, electronic music s artists. It organises the Technoparade, an annual event that attracts hundreds of thousands of enthusiasts. Network MAP, created in November 2006, brings together and categorises more than 40 genres of music in Paris. It represents the entire Parisian music eco-system. It helps artists to access all levels and chains of development - broadcasting places, studios, performance spaces, training centres, show producers, festivals, media etc. All these organisations are involved in the development of the current music scene in Paris for artists and public. The Network MAP will ensure constant dialogue and communication between organisations and represents the sector in professional events, participates in meetings, mediates with institutions and develops further projects for the sector.
