The Principal of Laude Palacio de Granda, Anne Stevens, is currently seeking to appoint a Deputy Principal (Academic) to join her senior leadership team and work with her to take the school to its next stage of development and excellence in teaching and learning. The newly appointed Deputy Principal (Academic) will commence in August 2016. The successful candidate will have a demonstrable track record of outstanding middle or senior educational leadership, preferably with experience in an international school setting. The ability to speak Spanish is essential, as the school teaches the Spanish curriculum and operates in the Spanish language. Have sympathy with and give support to the educational aims and ethos of the school. 2. Be an active and supportive member of the Senior Management Team. 3. Make such reports as the Principal and ISP may reasonably require. 4. Be included in all social events relating to the schools as a whole. 5. Work such hours as shall be deemed reasonable and necessary to discharge the Deputy duties efficiently and conscientiously. The Deputy may not hold any office or engage in any employment or voluntary activity, which may interfere with the proper performance of the Deputy duties. 6. Assist with the efficient organisation and administration of the school, in particular with regard to academic matters and pupil progress. 7. Deputise for the Principal as necessary and as required in all appropriate aspects of the management and discipline of the school. 8. Participate in the teaching of pupils as appropriate and have regard to the other duties listed below. B. The Deputy Principal (Academic) is expected to support the Principal and school stakeholders in ensuring the highest quality of learning and teaching by: 1. Leading on academic progress throughout the school: pupil tracking, management of the curriculum, timetabling etc. 2. Providing an example of excellence as a leading classroom practitioner and inspiring and motivating other staff. 3. Working with the Senior Leadership Team and Principal to sustain high expectations and excellent practice in learning and teaching throughout the school. 4. Monitoring and evaluating the quality of teaching and standards of student s achievement and use benchmarks and set targets for improvement 5. Being involved in monitoring and supporting continuous professional development with other members of staff to raise student s standards of achievement and to evaluate practice 6. Assisting the Principal and staff in ensuring that resources are effectively deployed to provide maximum benefit for learning and teaching C. The Deputy Principal (Academic) is expected to assist in the maintenance of the ethos of the school by; 1. Endeavouring to ensure that ISP values are central to the school and the relationships within it. 2. Playing a role in the school which ensures that the highest standards of conduct are expected and achieved. 3

The Deputy Principal (Academic) is expected to play their part in ensuring that each child has his or her character, self-esteem and potential developed in a caring and constructive way. This includes; 1. Assisting in the production of criteria and procedures for selecting pupils in consultation with the Principal. 2. Sharing the joys, achievements, attainments, disappointments and failures of the pupils. 3. Helping to ensure that there are opportunities both to encourage responsibility and for competition and co-operation so that pupils can appreciate the value of both individual achievement and living together in a community. 4. Overseeing the extra-curricular programme. E. The Deputy Principal (Academic) is expected to assist in monitoring of staffing so that high professional standards are maintained. F. The Deputy Principal (Academic) is expected to assist in the management of effective public relations. This includes; 1. Assisting in an effective communication system within the schools for the day to day running and management of events. 2. Assisting in the maintenance of the public image and reputation of the school. 3. Maintaining good communication with and supporting parent group activities. 4. Being available to parents and staff on any matter relating to the academic life of the school and associated matters. This has very important pastoral dimensions. 5. Supporting and representing the school at public events such as open days, exhibitions, services, concerts, plays etc. 6. Overseeing and organising major events in the school calendar. This includes; 1. Assisting in the development of staff appropriately and allocating duties in a manner consistent with conditions of employment. 2. Encouraging the staff to share in the process by which the aims and objectives of the school are interpreted, supported and believed. 3. Assisting the Principal in the appointment and appraisal of staff where appropriate. 4. Assisting the Principal in the school s Professional Development programme as appropriate. 5. Minimum 5 years teaching experience as an outstanding teacher Up to date knowledge and experience with Spanish curriculum (desirable but not essential) Minimum 3 years successful and relevant experience in a position of educational leadership Evidence of relevant Continuous Professional Development in curriculum, assessment and performance management Collaborative leadership style, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Flexible and adaptable to change, growth and development. Ambitious, hard-working, motivated and a strong role model.
