Connecting your Android device to student email This guide explains how to set up an Android device to automatically receive MMU student email. Locating the ActiveSync options On your Android device, select the settings application Scroll down to and tap accounts and sync Select the settings application here Select accounts and sync here Once in Accounts and sync, you will need to click add account Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync. Select add account here Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync here
Adding the account settings Enter your student email address and password (for example 12345678@stu.mmu.ac.uk) Tap the next button which should now be highlighted Accept the activation agreement if prompted Enter your student email address (for example 12345678@stu.mmu. ac.uk) Enter your password Accept the activation agreement if prompted You will then be asked to fill in the boxes for the advanced setup. Your email address and password should have been automatically filled in. The domain should be outlook.office365.com as this is the ActiveSync domain for the account. Once all the fields are filled in, tap manual setup. This should be filled in with your student email address The domain should be entered as outlook.office365.com Enter this field as your student email address as above The password should be filled in automatically for you
In the server settings box that now appears, the domain: user name field should have a backslash with your user name at the end. Add outlook.office365.com in front Ensure that outlook.office365.com is also the address of the Exchange server Click Next Add outlook.office365.com to the start of the field so it reads outlook.office365.com\<your email address> (for example outlook.office365.com\<12345678@stu.mmu.ac.uk>) The Exchange server needs to be entered as outlook.office365.com Once the incoming server settings have been checked, you will be asked to activate some remote security administration features. This is so that if you lose your device, you can remotely wipe the account on the device by using the features in the web client. Tap Yes if you wish to activate this. Tap Yes or No accordingly it is recommended that you select Yes so you can remotely wipe the email account on the device in case of theft
You will now be presented with account options, set these to your own preferences Click next when done Note: On some Android devices, there may be a sync SMS option. This will sync text messages sent to the device s phone number to your student email as incoming messages. If you do not want this to happen, please make sure you untick this.. Tapping the down arrow lets you select the peak and off-peak schedules - they can be automatically pushed or in a pre-determined time span (normally 1, 4 or 12 hours) Tap the down arrow to change the amount of email to synchronise to your device Change the size of the emails retrieved as required Tap the down arrow to change the calendar sync period this can be up to 6 months or all of your calendar Tap the tick if you wish to send email from this account by default or not Tap the tick for notifications when email arrives Tap the tick to sync contacts Tap the tick to sync calendar Tap the tick if you wish to sync SMS (text) messages you may wish to untick this if you don t want text messages appearing in your email box Tap next when finished
Lastly, you will need to give the account a name. This is so if you have multiple accounts, you will be able to identify easily which account to view in your device s email application, for example MMU Email Tap done when finished and this will take you back to the account screen. Enter the account name as you wish Tap done and the account has now been set up
