Earned Value Management and Progress Measurement A PLM Consulting Solution Public

Earned Value Management and Progress Measurement For a successful project management the Percentage of completion and Earned Value progress measurement techniques are crucial elements. The Consulting Solution is based on official Earned Value standards and integrates with the Earned Value functionality provided in ERP PS. wide range of measurement techniques available for the calculation of non-aggregated POCs aggregation along the project s task hierarchy

Earned Value Management and Progress Measurement Our Service An implementation-ready Solution Implementation of the Solution Documentation of the Solution 6 Months of Bugfixing Optional Online Scoping Session and/or Presentation at Customer

Functionality An additional WebDynpro application is provided, containing the following features: different measurement methods for POC determination are available and can be assigned via progress versions as default for special task types or custom settings on task level aggregation to PS accounting object level for a seamless integration into SAP PS visualization of accumulated POC on task, phase and project level selection between progress versions and timeframes visualization of budgets, costs and the earned values based on data from SAP PS 4

Determination of the Percentage of Completion (POC) calculation of Percentage of Completion (plan/actual) at task level only support of different measurement methods: ability to set measurement methods for individual task types as default ability to calculate percentage of completion values using various measurement methods in parallel storage of calculated data per day supporting also the progress analysis for short-running project 5

Different application areas PPM + PS Earned Value Analysis - Complete SAP PS integration - EVA-based KPIs also available for WBS elements PPM Earned Value Analysis - Determination of resource-based planned and actual costs - Calculation of cost-based KPIs possible PPM Progress analysis - Planned and actual POCs are calculated automatically - Different measurement techniques and methods are supported - Comparison of different versions - Schedule-based KPIs possible The PPM consulting solution is based on official EVA standards and completely integrated into SAP PS. Multiple measurement techniques available to calculate (non-) aggregated POCs Aggregation of POC for project hierarchy and WBS elements Tabular and graphical reporting of POCs for projects, phases and tasks Comparison to project baselines Predefined KPIs: SPI Schedule Performance Index CPI Cost Performance Index BCWS Budgeted Costs Work Scheduled BCWP Budgeted Costs Work Performed (= Earned Value) BAC Budget At Completion ETC Estimate to Complete 6

Requirements and integration scenarios Requirements For POC calculation and reporting none 1) SAP PS (3) Calculation of KPIs, based on cost data (2) Transfer POC data to WBS elements SAP PPM (1) Calculation of POC values Standard accounting integration For KPI calculation and reporting ( Earned Value Analysis) Accounting integration in order to retrieve cost data assignment of PPM objects to WBS elements or IOs see integration scenarios or Manually entered costs or Calculated costs (resource-based) or PPM CS Integrated Cost Planning 2) 3) SAP PS (1) cost data on WBS elements SAP PS optional (4) Reporting (2) Transfer cost data to PPM objects (2) Transfer cost data to SAP PS (4) Transfer POC data to WBS elements SAP PPM (3) Calculation of POC values and KPIs (4) Reporting SAP PPM (1) Cost planning (3) Calculation of POC values and KPIs Standard accounting integration OR Object links Standard accounting integration OR Object links 7

Configuration I Definition of progress versions (= calculation scenario) Set of dates (Earliest vs. Latest Dates) Weighting type for aggregation on phase and project level No weighting Based on duration Based on effort Manually entered Definition of measurement methods Start-Finish-Rule (e.g. 0-100; 20-80; 50-50; ) Degree of Processing (manually entered, based on PPM Change Documents) Subproject (POC values from assigned subproject) Time proportional (based on duration of the task) Status-based (customizing table) Based on recorded work (recorded CATS hours divided by planned effort of task) Different measurement methods for planned and actual POC possible 8

Configuration II Definition of KPIs Based on calculated POC values Pre-defined KPIs (if cost data is available) SPI Schedule Performance Index (cost independent) CPI Cost Performance Index BCWS Budgeted Costs Work Scheduled BCWP Budgeted Costs Work Performed (= Earned Value) BAC Budget At Completion ETC Estimate to Complete Transfer of POC and KPIs values to SAP customer fields (CI structures) Visible for each PPM object Access to values also in dashboards and further reporting tools 9

Functionality Calculation of POC and KPI values Ad-hoc for specific project As batch report/job for all projects (select options possible) Create a saved version in order to create a snapshot of your project s progress Reporting of POC and KPI values Comparison of different calculation scenarios (using different progress versions) Comparison of project with a saved version Compare planned against actual progress Time basis (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly) Time frame (from to ) Quick selections provided Tabular and graphical reporting for each object 10

Advanced POC reporting for project hierarchy POC reporting for project Hirarchy-based object selection with POC aggregation on phase and project level dynamic accumulation depending on the selected time basis (day/week/month/year) 11

Progress details 14

Aggregation to PS accounting object level Aggregation of the POC per accounting object and fiscal period: n : 1 cardinality 15

Integration into ECC A starting page where he can select the right project The accounting objects such as WBS elements can carry planned costs & budgets A new transaction has been created that reads the project hierarchy as well as the associated costs/budget, reads the pre-calculated POCs from PPM and derives planned and actual earned values Atandard SAP CO tables are used to store Earned Value data, ensuring that all standard CO reports can be used 16

Earned Value Management Enhanced project controlling and reporting The Consulting Solution Earned Value Management supports the analysis of a project-related progress in SAP PPM based on official SAP standards, following the implementation in SAP ERP Project System (PS) Business Challenges You are seeking to measure your project s target-performance progression apply an Earned Value methodology for your project controlling create your own KPIs Key Features The Service provides, amongst others, evaluation and representation of The degree of target-performance progression, cumulated and per period Interpretation a daily basis Application of various measuring techniques and methods Contrasted versions Tabular and graphical presentation Integration into SAP PS Implementaion in ca. 4 weeks Availability, Technical Details Available for SAP PPM 5.0, cprojects 4.5 Delivery via transport Distributed ERP-systems are supported Complete documentation of all development objects and functionalities Pricing, Links Price: 30,000 Euro* SAP Note: 1587390 SAP Service No.: 50109202, Enhancement Svcs for PPM Contact: Tobias Gläser Related Services Integrated Cost Planning Project Cost Reporting Project Time Reporting *Standard price for Germany.
