March 5, 2014 Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s): Re: Invitation to Participate in Emerging Young Leaders Community Summit The Middlesex and Union County Chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated are pleased to announce the Emerging Young Leaders Community Summit - Engaging Exceptional Youth for Leadership in the 21 st Century, a one-day conference for girls & boys in grades six through eight on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Hubbard Middle School, located at 661 W. 8 th Street in Plainfield, NJ. The summit is being held in connection with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated s Emerging Young Leaders (EYL) initiative, the Sorority s signature program to develop character, leadership, and civic engagement in middle-school girls. In keeping with EYL s goals, the day s events are centered on helping youth gain useful information through a series of workshops related to: character building, health and wellness, educational enrichment, leadership development, and civic engagement. There also will be a special workshop dedicated to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), as this is an area where our youth are critically underrepresented but where we know there is great potential. Parents are not required to remain at the summit with their children. If parents choose to stay, however, we invite them to attend workshops specifically targeted to their needs. A copy of the full registration packet is included in this mailing. We encourage you to make additional copies as needed. An electronic copy can be requested by emailing the Registration Committee at AKAEYLSummit@gmail.com In order to participate in the day s events, all registration forms must be received by Tuesday, March 18, 2014.
