2 Yehawali Yehawali is a Native American/Alaskan Native group which promotes the retention and graduation of students at the University of Washington. The group forms a community by building strong bonds between its individuals through mentorship and study tables. We are hosting a conference for 8th and 9th grade Native students in the State of Washington. The primary goal of this conference is to motivate students to participate in discussions around life after high school and higher education. We are inviting a variety of speakers to lead discussions around colleges & other career paths, and lifestyles of contemporary Natives including indigenous food, art, language and gender identity. The purpose of the conference is for students to feel more empowered and proud of their indigenous identity after participating in discussions and hearing motivational speakers at the conference. There is no fee to attend this conference. However, participants are responsible for their own lodging and for meals not listed on the schedule. Who should attend? 3 IMPORTANT Upon receiving application we will send a confirmation letter including a finalized schedule and any additional information. Applications must be postmarked by February 1st. **The maximum number of student participants is 130 and will be selected on a first come, first serve basis.
