68th AIPH ANNUAL CONGRESS ANTALYA, TURKEY Antalya first came to the limelight with the discovery of the Karain Cave, one of the oldest human settlements in the world. It hosted many civilizations from near and far thanks to its favourable climate and abundant plant and animal life. With its natural environment, historical attractions and world-class facilities Antalya today is one of the most important tourist centres in the world. Dear member, We are delighted to invite you to join us for the 68th AIPH Annual Congress which will be held in Antalya, Turkey from 26th September to 1st October 2016. This Congress will be packed with content and inspiration, all in the setting of this beautiful Mediterranean location. The activities will be held both on the site of Expo 2016 Antalya (http://www. expo2016.org.tr/) and at the Xanadu Resort Hotel (http://xanaduhotels. com.tr/en/otel/xanadu_resort_hotel). The week will include an International Green City Conference, an AIPH Expo Conference, tours of Expo 2016 Antalya, visits to local nurseries as well as the AIPH Committees including a joint meeting with Union Fleurs. During this event we will enjoy wonderful Turkish hospitality as well as a programme full of valuable industry insight and many opportunities for networking within the international horticultural industry. The Hadrian s Gate or Üçkapılar ( The Three Gates in Turkish) is a triumphal arch in the city center of Antalya which was built in the name of the Roman emperor Hadrian, who visited the city in the year 130. It has three arched gates. According to local legend, Sultana Belkis, the Queen of Sheba, is said to have passed under those gates and enjoyed a happy day in the palace in Aspendos on her way to visit King Solomon. The gate is considered to be Pamphylia s most beautiful gate. The upper part has three apertures in the shape of a cupola, and except for the pillars is built entirely of white marble with a striking ornamentation. Wednesday 28th September All Day Boat Tour and Antique City Kemer, Phaselis Departure from the Hotel: 08.00 am Departure from the boat: 05.30 pm The beautiful coastal town of Kemer, at the foot of the majestic Taurus Mountains, lies to the southwest of Antalya. After having breakfast at the hotel, we will depart for Kemer Yacht Harbour where our boat tour begins at 10.00 am. After 1 or 2 swimming breaks in the crystal clear water, we will anchor for our lunch break at a bay of Phaselis, which used to be the south harbour in ancient times. www.aiph.org After this break, we will travel to the Antique City by boat. There, we will discover the ancient bath, which is said to have been enjoyed by Cleopatra herself, the ancient market place, aqueduct, as well as the theatre that dates back to the Roman period. Afterwards, we will return to our boat with smaller boats. On our way back to the harbour of Kemer, we will enjoy at least one more swimming break before our tour ends at approximately 5 pm. 12

Thursday 29th September All day: Partners join the AIPH Group for a Tour of the Expo Site and a Tour of Antalya afterwards. This day will include: Visits to the Old Town of Antalya, Hadrian s Gate and the Communities in Bloom Award Site and will offer opportunities for shopping at your leisure and of your choice. Friday, 30th September All day: Tour to the Alanya Castle, the Red Tower and Cave. After breakfast at the hotel, we will depart for Alanya, which, situated on the eastern edge of the Gulf of Antalya, was originally established as a pirate town. This day will include: A visit of the castle of Alanya which was built by the audacious pirate Tryphon in the 13th century A visit of the Cleopatra Beach with its crystal clear sea. Exploration of a unique natural wonder, the Damlatas Cave, renowned for its healing effects and thus used for asthma treatments by the locals. The Dim Cave, providing a feast to the eyes of visitors with its stalagmites and stalactites. Saturday, 1st October All day: Partners join the AIPH Group for Professional Tour Visits. 13

WHICH AIRPORT? We recommend the Antalya International Airport (AYT). International participants may opt for one of the following alternatives. TRAVEL Direct flight to the Antalya International Airport Direct flights to Antalya are offered from Germany, Netherlands, France, United Kingdom and some other EU countries. Flight via Istanbul The Airport of Antalya is well connected to Istanbul with more than 15 domestic flights from Istanbul to Antalya. Therefore, flying to Antalya with a stopover in Istanbul is also a very convenient travel option (Istanbul-Antalya is a 1-hour flight). Participants who prefer this option should pay attention to which Istanbul airport they are flying to. There are two international airports in Istanbul (Ataturk International (IST) and Sabiha Gökcen (SAW)), which are quite far away from each other but offer both very convenient connections.
