GroupWise Connector for Microsoft Outlook Novell has produced a product called the GroupWise Connector for Microsoft Outlook that allows Outlook to interact with Novell GroupWise on a much more native level than a standard IMAP connection. With this product installed, you will be able to use Microsoft Outlook to view the MSB Address Book, use your calendar, and more effectively manage your inbox. The GroupWise Connector does have some limitations, so it unfortunately cannot be a full replacement for GroupWise. Some examples of these limitations include not being able to use the GroupWise proxy function, not being able to see shared folders, and restricted access to personal address books that you may have set up in GroupWise. Because the Connector is part of GroupWise, you should have access to the full-featured client as well, but we strongly encourage you to not run Outlook and GroupWise concurrently, as this may cause conflicts and unintended problems. There is more than one way to make the GroupWise Connector work with Outlook, but this document will primarily be focused on using the GroupWise Connector in a way that functions with a previously configured installation of Outlook. We think that this will be the optimal way to use the GroupWise Connector for Outlook. Preparation Before following the instructions in this document, you should already have installed Microsoft Outlook on your computer. This document is focused on the 2007 version of Microsoft Outlook, which is part of Microsoft Office 2007. If you would like to check other email accounts with Outlook, you should set them up before installing GroupWise. You will also need to install GroupWise 8 on your computer. The current version of the GroupWise client can be found on the S: drive under \MSBTC\MSBTC SOFTWARE\GroupWise\current_client. Please run the automatic installer and use the typical settings. You should now have both GroupWise and Microsoft Outlook on your computer. Microsoft Outlook should be the default email program, but if it is not, it should prompt you the next time you open Outlook. After you have installed both programs on your computer, go to the Control Panel. The Control Panel will look different depending on what version of Windows you are using. The following screenshot
shows the Windows XP Control Panel. You should use the Classic View to show all of the icons, and look for the Mail icon. If you do not see this icon and you are using a 64-bit operating system, you may need to locate the 32- bit items. Double click on Mail to open the Mail setup screen.
Click on Show Profiles, and the following window should appear. You should have two profiles to choose from, one being GroupWise and the other being Outlook. If you are planning to use Outlook to check your mail, you should have Outlook always open the Outlook
profile. If you are using GroupWise and having any difficulty accessing features, try coming to this screen and switching the profile to GroupWise temporarily to see if that fixes the issue. Adding the GroupWise Connector for Microsoft Outlook to a previously configured Outlook environment 1. Open Microsoft Outlook. Go to the Tools Menu and choose Account Settings. 2. In the Account Settings window, click on New to start adding a new account to Outlook.
3. On the first screen of the window that appears, choose Other and then select Novell GroupWise and click next.
4. If you have previously logged in to GroupWise, this screen will be filled out for you automatically. Otherwise, enter mail.msb.edu as your email server and use 1678 as the port. Enter your NetID as the user id (you should not type @georgetown.edu after the NetID). Click finish.
5. The GroupWise login window should appear. Enter your Novell password and click OK. 6. You should now get a warning from Microsoft Outlook that your GroupWise account addition will not function properly until you restart Outlook. Click OK to close the message.
7. You should then get a message stating that you have successfully added an account. Click Finish, then close out of Outlook as the previous warning stated. 8. When you reopen Outlook, you should be greeted with the Novell GroupWise login box. Enter your password and click OK (or press Enter) and you should have access to your GroupWise account as well as your previously configured email accounts.
Important notes: Logging in to GroupWise is not mandatory in this configuration; you will still be able to access your other email accounts normally regardless. GroupWise requires an Internet connection to work properly in this configuration.
