Practical information about Ski & Sail General information: The tours are in shared boats with a maximum of 8 guests per boat. A security manual will be sent before departure. The excursions away from the boat vary from 4 to 10 hours per day. The boat: Bavaria 44 (44 feet) with 4 cabins where 3 are with double beds and 1 with 2 single beds. Two toilets and 1 with shower that can be used as long as there is enough water onboard and we are able to fill the water. Food and meals onboard: Meals on board are included throughout the tour (lunch to be packed when away from the boat). On the tour, all guests will contribute in running the ship, and cooking is no exception. A menu will be prepared in advance, please do inform of any allergies when you book the trip. All beverages are to be paid directly. Required skills: When it comes to skiing you do not have to be very experienced to enjoy the Ski & Sail adventures (but if you are not, we recommend hiring a ski-guide not included). It is important that you know your own limitations, and it is an advantage to be reasonably fit and have some knowledge about skiing and sailing. Regarding the sailing you will be taught everything you need to know and you will be sailing even if the conditions can be a bit rough for a rookie in this area (please note that it is winter-sailing and the weather can be rough). This may be challenging sometimes. On board we have a very experienced crew. You have to be willing to contribute in sailing the boat. Security: There is a strong focus on security at all aspects of the trips. On land we teach you and demonstrate how to use the avalanche equipment. There are several factors that determine the level of safety while conducting back country skiing and snowboarding. Good preparations, a humble attitude regarding weather, avalanche danger and good communication within the group are all very important aspects. Without guides with local knowledge we do not venture into very steep/challenging/high risk areas. On board we teach you how to handle different situations that can occur at sea: Manover-board, fire, abandoning the ship, motor breakdown, broken rig and hitting ground, just to mention the most serious situations. Building your competence to master these critical situations is an important way to improve safety on board. On the sea and in the mountain everyone have to know how to behave in critical situations. With our concept we also want to teach you to become participants and not only passengers on the trip. You will feel better and it contributes to improved safety for you as well as the crew. Our trips should be considered as courses and great 4
experiences, more than merely a vacation. Before the trip starts you will receive a safety and risk analysis for Ski & Sail adventures. We will also ask you to submit a declaration of responsibility in case of accidents with information about next of kin etc. Safety-Vests are on board for all guests and a thick rain coat can be provided if needed. At least one skipper/instructor will be on board and sometimes with an extra instructor. What is the recommended equipment for Ski & Sail? You will receive a recommended equipment list before we start the trip. Concerning equipment, you can basically use the same clothing for skiing and sailing. We recommend that people wear their skiing outfit under a thick rain coat "oljehyre" that we can provide. 5
