3 October 27-28, 2011 Camp Sequassen New Hartford, CT Purpose and Program Details What is a Webelos Outdoor Woods or WOW? A WOW is a district outdoor program activity designed to aid in a Webelos Den earning some of the outdoor activity badges. Activity badges offered are Outdoorsman, Readyman, Geologist and Forester. Whittlin Chip is also offered. The purpose of this outdoor experience is to create in all Webelos Scouts a genuine desire to know more about Boy Scouting, and through a funfilled series of events, to give them a preview of the thrills of Scout skills and camping. An important goal of the WOW is to assist in the Webelos to Scout Transition. Webelos Scouting and the activities of the Webelos den form a natural stepping-stone for the Webelos Scout and his parents to move into Boy Scouting. Webelos Overnight Woods is an event conducted by the Cub Scout Activity Committee and Boy Scouts Troops in the district for those boys who are on the threshold of entering the Troop program. The interaction of the Webelos with Boy Scout Troops shows the fun and skills of Boy Scouting. It offers an opportunity for parents to gain perspective on Troop programming and the opportunity to "graduate" along with their son(s). While at this event, parents should seek information about camping plans, meeting times, advancement plans, etc. Program Details All Webelos will be camping in North Sequassen and parking in the main lot and carrying all gear into the campsite. Campsite Eli Whitney in North Sequassen will be Headquarters for this event. Registration and set begins at 10:00 AM and the program will start at 1:00 on. Each Webelos and parent will need to have a tent since there are no cabins for sleeping. The Webelos will be divided into patrols that will go to each program station and learn and experience a skill in a hands on way. At one of the stations, a foil dinner will be put together, and this is your provided meal for Saturday night. Additional food will be necessary for the boys are always extremely hungry on outdoor adventures such as the WOW. The foil meals need to be cooked in your campsite. A closing will be held prior to dinner to accommodate anyone who is not staying for the night. A packing list has been prepared to aid in getting ready for the weekend. After dinner, the Webelos can enjoy some free time but they must stay in the campsite. At 8:00 PM, a will be held. Every den or individuals are invited to perform skits and/or songs at the. This will last for about an hour and then everyone is to return to their campsite. Quiet time in the campsite is 10:00 PM and lights out is 10:30 PM. On Sunday morning, a continental breakfast will be offered in Campsite Eli Whitney and Webelos are free to leave anytime they need to. Webelos can attend for the day or for the weekend. Please contact Dan Marazita for questions at [email protected] Webelos Camping Packing List
