The position will work with the Facilities Manager to oversee all laboratory equipment installation, servicing and repairs are performed in a timely fashion. It is also the responsibility of the Laboratory Manager to ensure appropriate induction and training of new laboratory staff is carried out. A key role of the Laboratory Manager will be to support the move to our new building at the Perth Children s Hospital.

Measures: How it is measured Laboratory operations, compliance and safety 40 Ensure effective operation of laboratories, via policies and procedures applicable to all tenants of the same laboratory space. Develop and maintain a Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) quality system incorporating polices and SOP s to ensure Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP). Ensure appropriate laboratory induction for all laboratory workers. Develop policies and procedures and ensure proper handling, storage and disposal of dangerous goods, including poisons and liquid nitrogen. To assist with record keeping of chemicals and that the catalogue of chemicals meets the standards required. Ensure all facilities registered as PC2 meet the Office of Gene Technology (OGTR) regulations. Hold the position of Laboratory Radiation Officer for the Institute. Compliant laboratory facilities A safe working environment Efficient and effective laboratory facilities Researchers are clear and supported on the standards required to be upheld in the laboratory Number and type of Laboratory safety issues Compliance with regulations (poisons, chemicals, liquid nitrogen, radiation) GLP and GCLP compliance Feedback from OSH committee Feedback from Reduction in researcher time spent on managing laboratory facilities Ensure compliance with quarantine regulations. Assume responsibility for spill management and training in the use of Hazmat spill kits. To ensure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that is required for specific facilities and equipment is readily available and maintained in good condition. Furthermore, coordinate the servicing and/or purchase of new PPE if required.

Laboratory Equipment 30% Facilitate the consultation, identification and prioritisation of equipment needs with and manage the process from decision through to procurement and commissioning of equipment. Oversee the Laboratory Equipment Specialist, to organise, develop and facilitate training, including induction for laboratory equipment. Develop policies and programmes for deciding what equipment will move to the new building To liaise with other groups moving to the same laboratory space with respect to equipment to be transferred to the new building. Ensure effective maintenance of all equipment, including servicing and repairs in conjunction with Facilities Manager Work with Facilities Manager to coordinate annual service contracts for specific laboratory instruments. Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP s) for the laboratory facilities and communal equipment. Ensure all equipment certification and calibration requirements are met at all times Monitor and ensure effective operation of Fridges and Freezers, working closely with Facilities.
