Activities in School KG (Morning and Afternoon): 1/8/14 8/8/14 14/8/14 20/8/14 30/8/14 Baroda High School, Alkapuri Activity Report August 2014 Thought of the Month: Challenges are what makes life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful. Joshua J. Marine LKG children of afternoon shift enjoyed a very spiritual experience by visiting Iskon temple. They sang kirtan along with other devotees in the temple and relished the prasad Khichdi. Rakshabandhan celebration was arranged for the children. All girls tied rakhi to the boys and each one got sweets. Song presentated by UKG children. Independence day was celebrated. Patriotic song presentation by LKG children. Janmashtmi celebration was arranged. Skit presentation by UKG children and raas by LKG children. Ganpati Sthapna - UKG children of morning and afternoon shift performed a dance. Parents were invited. Prasad was distributed to all. Face to face meeting was arranged for parents. Activities in School - Primary (Morning): 1/8/14 Practice for patriotic dance competition for stds. I to VII. The theme was patriotism and bravery songs. Finals of patriotic dance competition were held at Shri V.M. Patel Centre for Excellence, BHS Alkapuri. The participants danced gracefully to the tunes of the patriotic songs. They were dressed in vibrant hues in keeping with the colours of our National flag. The enthusiasm and patriotic fervour was worth seeing. The judges were Mr. Ashwin Prajapati, renowned in the field of performing arts, and Mr. Ravi Rawal, western dance choreographer and Kathak dancer. Finals of the patriotic dance competition for the stds. I & II. The tiny tots swayed rhythmically to the melodious tunes of the patriotic songs. Their costumes were 14/8/14 unmatched and had all the colours of a rainbow. The young participants, through their movements evoked patriotic feelings. The judges were Ms. Shraddha Kapoor and Ms. Shital Shah from the KG section, BHS Alkapuri. Students of stds. VI and VIII were briefed about the respective field trips. Activities in School (Common Activities) - Primary (Morning and Afternoon): 8/8/14 Morning shift - Patriotic dance competition practice. Afternoon shift - Students participated in the patriotic song singing competition (stds. I to IV) and Speech giving competition (stds. V to VII).

15/8/14 22/8/14 23/8/14 68 th Independence Day celebration was a solemn affair. It was attended by the BLCET Trustees and Heads of all the BHS schools. Chief guest was Prof. Prerna Mohite and the Guest of Honour was Lion Shri Gaurang B. Pandya. The Chief guest hoisted the National flag along with melodious songs sung by secondary section students. The chief guest addressed the gathering and stressed that we should reflect on our hard earned freedom and strive to be worthy of it. It was followed by a short cultural programme patriotic dances, speeches by students of secondary and primary (afternoon shift), march past by NCC cadets, patriotic songs by BLS students, patriotic dance by Commerce section students, felicitation of staff members on completion of 25 years of service in the school, blessings by the Guest of Honour, and last but not the least, mouth-watering refreshment. Morning Shift - The cultural activities conducted were: stds. I & II Ganpati outline decoration competition, stds. III & IV Clay modelling (Ganpati making) competition and for stds. V VII making Eco-friendly Ganpati competition. The Ganpati idols brought out the creativity of young artists. Eco-Clay moulding competition was held for students of stds. I - VII in CA period. Face to face meeting was held for parents of students stds. I and II. Parents were called to see the test papers. Out of School Activities: Primary: Sports Competition : Holiday for Ganesh Chaturthi Jila Ramat Gamat Adhikari organised various District level Tournaments throughout the month. Students from both the shifts participated in various team events. 1/8/14 2/8/14 6/8/14 7/8/14 8/814 18/8/14 (Mon) Vaidik Joshi (VII C) and Arya Patel (VII A) participated in Football Tournament (boys) organized by Baroda Federation Football Academy at Ahmedabad. Vaidik Joshi emerged as a winner. Inter school Chess Tournament U-14 for boys and girls was organised at Gujarat Public School. 4 students participated in it. Football Tournament for girls was organized at Akota stadium. The team emerged as winners. Janvi Gujjar (VII C), Diya Jojawar (VII C) and Kirat Patel (V C) were selected for the state level. Atheletics (Boys) held at Manjalpur Sports complex. Ronak Singh (VIII D) secured 1 st position in 400 mtrs. Atheletics (Girls) held at Manjalpur Sports complex. Nandini Goyal (VIII C) stood 2 nd in 100 metres dash. Badminton (Girls) Nupur Vasavada (VIII A) got selected for the state level. District level yoga competition was held at Sahyog Life Mission, Karelibaug. Madola Avani (VI E) secured 2 nd and Purohit Suhani (VI E) secured 4 th position in the competition. Throw ball (Boys and Girls) was held at Lal Bahadur School. Ayush Gupte (VIII A), Rhytham Patel (VIII E), Disha Mehta (VIII B) and Himani Parmar (VIII E) were selected for state level. State level yoga competition was held at Surat. Mandola Avani (VI E) participated in it.

19/8/14 20/8/14 21/8/14 22/8/14 25/8/14 (Mon) 28/8/14 Cultural Activity: Art & Craft: 24/8/14 (Sun) Other Activities: Kabaddi (boys) U-14 tournament was held at Jumma Dada Akhada, Dandiya bazar. Ananya Singh (VIII A) got selected for state level and Yash Makwana (VIII D) secured 3 rd position and got selected for trial camp. Kabaddi (girls) U-14 tournament was held at Jumma Dada Akhada, Dandiya bazaar. Riddhi Bhimnathwala (VII A) and Prishita Kher (VII A) got selected for state level. Himani Parmar (VIII D) secured 2 nd position and got selected for trial camp. Kho-kho (boys) U-14 was held at Jumma Dada Akhada, Dandiya bazaar. Falak Hirani (VIII A) selected for state level and Ronak Singh (VIII D) secured 2 nd position and got selected for trial camp. Kho-kho (girls) U-14 was held at Jumma Dada Akhada, Dandiya bazaar. Himani Thakkar (VIII C) selected for state level and Muskan Sharma (VI E) got selected for trial camp. Langdi U-19 (boys & girls) was held at Jumma Dada Akhada, Dandiya bazaar. Girls team was the winner. Boys team was the first runner up. Bhakti pathak (VII B), Khushi Gohil (VIII A), Esha Thorat (VII D), Hesha Thakkar (VII D), Aaryan Nayar (VI A). Neev Trivedi (VIII A), Aatman Modi (VIII A) and Sujan Rathore (VIII E) were selected for state level. State level Throw Ball Tournament for boys was organized at Palanpur. Rhytham Patel (VIII E) participated in it. State level Throw Ball Tournament for girls was organized at Palanpur. Disha Mehta (VIII B) and Himani Parmar (VIII E) participated in it. Baroda team secured 2 nd position. State level Gymnastics competition was held at Bhavnagar. Vidhi Gandhi (V E) and Sujan Rathore (VIII E) participated in it. Inter school Drama competition was organized by Bal Bhavan Society. 20 schools participated in it. The topic was Humare Rishi Guru. BHS, Alkapuri (Morning shift) won the 3 rd prize for their performance. Clay idol (Ganpati) making competition was organized at BHS, Danteshwar. Students from stds. V to VIII participated in it under two groups. Certificates of participation were given to all. Aniket Patel (V A) and Disha Kothari (VI B) got 1 st prize in group I. Ms. Latesh Narvekar, Art teacher (afternoon shift) won the 2 nd prize in the Teacher s category. 43 students from both the shifts participated in Idol making competition held at Fatehsinh Museum. 61 students from both the shifts participated in the Eco-friendly Ganpati making competition, organized at Bal Bhavan. 3 students, Meet Gandhi (VII D), Dhruv Shah (VI A) and Nikita Mishra (V B) bagged the consolation prizes. 14/8/14 D.R. Amin School organized Inter school Quiz competition for the students of stds. I to VI. Students from both the shifts participated. Nalanda International School, Vadodara organized Inter School competitions. BHS, Alkapuri participated in various categories. The students from morning shift participated in Be a Journalist and Incredible India, where as students from the 23/8/14 afternoon shift participated in Mono acting and Poster making competition. For poster making, the topics were Go Green and Save the Tiger. Drunish Bhavsar (V D) secured 2 nd prize. Devanshu Narvekar (VI D) and Stuti (VI D) bagged consolation prizes for the same. Participation certificates were given to all. 24/8/14 Chinmaya mission organized a Geeta Chanting competition for the students of stds.

(Sun) II - IV. 20 students from both the shifts participated and got the participation certificates. 31/8/14 Arupratan Tarafdar (VI D) participated in Spell bee competition at the state level. He (Sun) secured 3 rd prize in orals. Written result is awaited. Field Trip: 5/8/14 6/8/14 7/8/14 26/8/14 27/8/14 28/8/14 Students of stds. I & II went to the Upaj and Model farm. Students had a good learning experience. They learnt about types of plants, saplings, rain-water harvesting, green house, etc. Students of std. V visited the World Heritage site Champaner. Students were impressed by the lofty structures, intricate craftsmanship done during the mughal times. Students had an opportunity to see the different sections of a palace Diwan-i-khas, Diwan-i-aam, separate section for royal ladies, etc. They also saw botanical garden at Virasat Van. Students of std. VII went to Vanjhari Vav and Lothal the archaeological site. Students had a wonderful experience of visiting one of the ancient civilizations Lothal civilization. The supervisor there showed the ruins which spoke volumes about the main characteristics of Lothal civilization Town planning, drainage system, construction of houses, etc. Students of stds. III & IV went to Amul Dairy, Anand. Students got a first hand experience of how different milk-products are manufactured and packed. They also visited Sardar Patel Aashram,Anand and saw the relics. Students of std. VI went to Goraje Muniashram, Waghodia. Students visited the old age home which is nestled in the calm and peaceful surroundings of Muniashram. They interacted with senior citizens residing there about their routine, activities, medical facilities, etc. They visited the cancer hospital which is well-equipped and has a good team of doctors. Students of std. VIII went to Vidhan Sabha, Gandhinagar. They had an idea about the working of the state government. Students were fortunate to meet the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Mrs. Anandiben Patel in person. They also visited the Sabarmati Ashram, Ahmedabad. They got an idea about the life of Mahatma Gandhi. They saw the legendary Charkha, books and other souveniers. Teacher Enhancement : 27/8/14 English Enhancement Workshop was conducted by Ms. Sheeba Zachariah and Ms. Preeti Sheth for 32 teachers. The concept was synonyms. It comprised of a small presentation and worksheets. Parent Teacher Association: The Annual General Body Meeting was held at Shri V.M. Patel Centre For Excellence, BHS, Alkapuri. After the formal welcome there was a prayer dance performed by the students of stds. VI to VIII from both the shifts. The treasurer of PTA, 2/8/14 Mr. Madhusudan Balodi presented the report about the income and expenditures of PTA fund for the year 2013-14. The Vice-president, Mr. Vijay Patel presented the list of activities planned for the year 2014-15. The President and Principal, Mrs. Heena Singh highlighted the importance of a healthy and transparency between the teachers and parents and involvement of parents in school activities. It was then concluded with tea / coffee and snacks for all.
