The educational activities and events to be organized include 50th Schools Dance Festival - Golden Jubilee Celebration Performance and Winners Performance cum Prize Presentation, The Poster Design Competition for the Thirty-second Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad, Hong Kong Physics Olympiad 2014, International Mathematical Olympiad Preliminary Selection Contest - Hong Kong 2014 and Harvard Book Prize Programme 2013/14 School Year. 2. 3 50 th Schools Dance Festival Golden Jubilee Celebration Performance and Winners Performance cum Prize Presentation Annex 1 Aims/Objectives The captioned events aim to enhance sharing among schools in dance education, and provide an opportunity for students and the public to enjoy watching the brilliant performances of the 50 th Schools Dance Festival (SDF). 2. The SDF is jointly organised by the Education Bureau (EDB) and the Hong Kong Schools Dance Association Limited (HKSDA), with venue and ticket charges sponsored by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. This year, the SDF has entered its 50 th Anniversary, and in order to celebrate this long lasting festival, the EDB and the HKSDA jointly organise a dance performance with the theme Passing the Torch. More than 200 dancers including primary students, secondary students, graduates and dance professionals who participated in the dance festivals will be performing in this event. Besides, selected winners of the 50 th SDF will be invited to perform at the Winners Performance cum Prize Presentation. 3. The above performances will be held from 23 to 27 April 2014 in the Auditorium, Sha Tin Town Hall. are as follow: Date Time Programme April :30 pm 10:15 pm 26 April :30 pm 6:15 pm Winners Performance cum Prize Presentation 27 April :00 pm 6:00 pm Golden Jubilee Celebration Performance 4. Tickets at $50, $60 and $70 are available at all URBTIX outlets from 23 March 2014 onwards. Half-price tickets are available for full-time students, senior citizens age 60 or above, comprehensive social security assistance recipients, people with disabilities and the minder. A 10% discount will be offered for the purchase of 10 or more tickets for each performance (except for half-price tickets). 4 Annex 2 Poster Design Competition for the Thirty-second Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad (2014 / 15) Aims/Objectives This is to invite secondary schools to participate in the captioned competition. 2. The Poster Design Competition for the Thirty-second Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad (HKMO) is jointly organised by the Mathematics Education Section of the Education Bureau and the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology of the Hong Kong Institute of Education. The competition is to promote the 32 nd HKMO, which aims to foster students interest in learning mathematics. 3. of the competition are set out in Appendix 2a. 4. Schools interested in nominating their students to participate in the captioned competition are requested to complete the Application Form (together with their students works) and return it to the Mathematics Education Section of the Education Bureau on or before 15 May 2014 (Thursday). 5. All entries submitted will not be returned, and the copyright of all artworks submitted belongs to the Organising Committee of the HKMO. Contact Person 6. 6 Poster Design Competition for the Thirty-second Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad Regulations 1. Theme The competition aims to promote the Thirty-second Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad (32 nd HKMO). The objective of the HKMO is to foster students interest in learning mathematics. 2. Participant s Qualification Participants must be students registered in Hong Kong whole-day secondary schools. 3. Entries Only one entry can be submitted by each participant. 4. Basic Requirement of Poster (a) Size A4 (210 mm 297 mm) (b) File type bmp, jpeg or ai (adobe illustrator), with minimum resolution of 300 dpi (c) Colour There is no limitation on the number of printing colours to be used. (d) Design (i) The logo of the HKMO must be included (refer to Point 12 of this Appendix for the sample of logo). (ii) (iii) The design should show that the HKMO is a mathematics competition and reflect its objective. The design should not bear any drawing of calculators as they are not allowed to be used in the HKMO. 5. Title of Poster The following titles must be included on the poster: (a) The Thirty-second Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad; and (b) 第 三 十 二 屆 香 港 數 學 競 賽 6. Information of the Participant The following information of the participant in both Chinese and English must be written on the back of each entry: (a) Name of participant (b) Class (c) School (d) Contact telephone number

Submission of Entries Each entry (a printed A4 size poster, a CD containing its softcopy, and the information as specified in Point 6 above) should be submitted together with the attached Application Form through the head of the school on or before 15 May 2014 to: Mathematics Education Section, Education Bureau, Room 403, 4/F., Kowloon Government Offices, 405 Nathan Road, Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon 8. Prizes (a) Champion : A gold medal, a certificate of merit and a souvenir (b) 1st Runner-up : A silver medal, a certificate of merit and a souvenir (c) 2nd Runner-up : A bronze medal, a certificate of merit and a souvenir (d) Ten best designers : A certificate of merit and a souvenir for each designer Note: All prize winners must collect their prizes within 3 years after the announcement of results; otherwise, their prizes will be voided. 9. Judging The judging panel for the competition will comprise members of the Organising Committee of the HKMO (2013/14). The decision of the judging panel will be final. The results will be announced in early July 2014 through letters to all participating schools. 10. Copyright All entries will not be returned and will become the property of the Organising Committee of the HKMO. The Committee will have the right to use those designs. 11. Publication The poster with the best design will be produced and issued to all secondary schools early next school year for promoting the Thirty-second Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad. 12. 8 Hong Kong Physics Olympiad 2014 Annex 3 Aims / Objectives This Annex is to invite Heads of secondary schools to nominate their students studying in Secondary 4 or below to take part in the Hong Kong Physics Olympiad (HKPhO) The HKPhO has been organised since 2003 to promote physics education in Hong Kong and provide an enhancement platform for students with high potential in physics. The HKPhO is co-organised by the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education, the Education Bureau and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The Physical Society of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Physics Olympiad Committee are advisors of the competition. 3. The HKPhO 2014 will be held on 11 May 2014 (Sunday). Follow-on enhancement programmes will be arranged for the high-achieving students in the HKPhO Those students with outstanding performance in the subsequent training sessions would be selected to represent Hong Kong to take part in the 46 th International Physics Olympiad to be held in For details of the background information and regulations of the contest, Online Registration Platform, past papers of the contest and the Physics Enhancement Programme -- Student Self-learning Booklet, please browse the website of Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education ( 5. 9 International Mathematical Olympiad Preliminary Selection Contest - Hong Kong 2014 Annex 4 Aims / Objectives This Annex is to invite Heads of secondary schools to nominate their students to take part in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) Preliminary Selection Contest Hong Kong (the Contest) In the spirit of the IMO, the Contest aims at heightening students interest in learning mathematics while providing enhancement training for students with high potential in mathematics. The Contest is co-organised by the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE), the Education Bureau and the IMO Hong Kong Committee. 3. This year, the Contest will be held on 24 May 2014 (Saturday a.m.). Follow-on enhancement programmes will be arranged for the high-achieving students in the Contest. 10 Annex 5 Harvard Book Prize Programme /14 School Year Aims / Objectives The purpose of this annex is to inform secondary schools of the Harvard Book Prize programme and invite schools to participate. 2. The Harvard Book Prize, administered by the Harvard Club of Hong Kong, seeks to reach out to all local and international secondary schools in Hong Kong. The Club is prepared to award Book Prizes, i.e. one winner and two runners-up, to each school. Schools may select their outstanding students in their second-to-last year of secondary school, who achieve academic excellence, possess exceptional personal qualities or make a significant contribution to school/community in the 2013/14 school year. 3. of the programme are available at the Harvard Club of Hong Kong s website: Interested schools should apply via the Harvard Club of Hong Kong s website. 4. School heads are encouraged to nominate and select the recipients for these prizes. Schools that wish to join the programme should register and nominate the winners and runners-up by 5:00 pm on 31 March 2014 (Monday). 5. The Harvard Book Prize Award Ceremony will take place at 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on 9 May 2014 (Friday) at the auditorium of Diocesan Boys' School, 131, Argyle Street, Mongkok, Kowloon. Further details will be distributed in due course. Book Prize-winners or their school representatives must attend the Harvard Book Prize Award Ceremony to collect the Prize Book on stage.
