2 The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is a premier professional accountancy body of the country, established in July, 1949 under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949, enacted by the Parliament, to regulate the profession of Accounting in India. The Institute is engaged in imparting education and training to the students. Chartered Accountancy is a challenging profession that offers practice and job opportunities in the areas of accounting, auditing, corporate finance, project evaluation, commercial laws, taxation, corporate governance and so on. It is a globally acclaimed profession capable of offering new vistas to young talent. Presently, it has more than 1.50 lakh members and over 3.50 lakh students. The Institute has entered its sixtieth year on July 1, 2008 and is celebrating the year as the Diamond Jubilee Year. As a part of its Diamond Jubilee Celebrations the Institute is conducting a National Sports Competition. Eligibility This competition is open to the chartered accountancy students who are undergoing articles and the students in respect of whom two 2

3 years have not expired after the completion of articles. CPT students are also eligible to participate in this competition. The competition will be conducted in different parts of the country. The purpose of this sports competition is to create awareness about the need for physical and mental awareness among the CA students. This would also help the students in personality development and improve their inter-personal skills. The sports competition will be held at three levels 1. Branch level competition At the first level, the sports competition will be conducted at different cities across India through the branches of ICAI. These branches will conduct the first level, i.e., city level sports competition. The sports competition shall be held in the city. Students are requested to confirm the participation by sending their names. Based on the performance of the students as judged by the panel of judges, a prize will be given to the winner and certificate of appreciation to two runners up. Each branch including sub-city (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata have been divided into sub-city for this purpose), where Regional Office is situated shall select one winner and two runners up to participate in the Regional level competition. 4 should be held on or before December 15, The list of winners and runners up should be forwarded to the respective Regional Office on or before December 20, Regional level competition The second level sports competition will be the Regional level competition. The winner and two runners up of each city and sub-city at the first level of the competition will be eligible to take part in the Regional level competition. There will be in all five Regions Northern, Southern, Eastern, Central and Western. One winner and two runners up from each city and one winner and two runners up from each sub-city, namely, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai will participate in the Regional level competition. The Regional level competition shall be held in Mumbai, Chennai, Kanpur, Delhi and Kolkata. The venues may be changed in case it is desirable to hold the competition in any other city. The competition will be conducted by the respective Regional Councils of the ICAI. The date and venue will be intimated to each of the eligible participants and cost of travel, etc. will be reimbursed by the Regional Council. The winner of the Regional Competition shall be awarded a shield and two runners up will be awarded certificates of merit. The winner and two runners up 4

5 from each region will participate in the All India Level Competition. The Regional level competitions will have to be held between December 21-31, All India level competition One winner and two runners up from each region for each game mentioned in sports events will participate at the All India level competition. The place, date and venue for the All India level Competition may be decided by the Board of Studies the Educational wing of the ICAI. A shield will be awarded to the winners and certificates will be awarded to the first runner up and the second runner up of the competition. Wide publicity will be given to the competition and the winners will be selected by a panel of judges comprising eminent persons. Sports Events The following Sport activities are proposed to be covered: 1. Carom 2. Chess 3. Badminton singles and doubles separately for male and female 4. Table tennis singles and doubles separately for male and female 5. Athletics (a) 100 mtrs race male and female separately (b) 400 mtrs race male and female separately (wherever feasible to organize) (c) Swimming wherever feasible to organize 5

The place, date and venue for the All India level Competition may be decided by the Board of Studies the Educational wing of the ICAI.

6 6. Squash wherever feasible to organize Rules of the game The rules laid down by the appropriate national / international authority for the respective game will apply. Chief Guest A Chief Guest may also be invited to the contests. The Chief Guest should be a person of repute in public life such as a Minister, Member of Parliament, Member of Legislative Assembly, a senior bureaucrat or an eminent personality from the industry/bureaucracy. Spectators Spectators should include CA students, chartered accountants, parents of the students, members of the public as may be appropriate and any celebrity. Travel and stay Branch level winners traveling to the Regional offices in Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Kanpur and Delhi for participating in the Regional Level Competition, and regional level winners traveling to participate in the All India Level Competition, will be reimbursed to and fro 2 tier AC train fare by the shortest route. They will also be paid an Rs.1500 per day, which would include expenses on boarding, lodging and conveyance. The daily allowance would be payable up to a 6

7 maximum of four days to meet the incidental expenses subject to actual number of days from start to the end of the journey. Accommodation Students have to make their own arrangements for stay at place where the competition will be held. Wherever possible, the office may assist in arranging reasonable accommodation for the participants at economical rates. Publicity The regions should give widest publicity to the competition in their cities. Guidance and supervision The services of a professional consultant in the respective game may be utilized. All the branch and regional level contests should be conducted under the guidance and supervision of the member of the Board of Studies wherever available. Otherwise the Council member/s located in the concerned jurisdiction will guide the proceedings. In the case of competition at the Branch level, the Chairman of the Regional Council/Regional Students' Association should also be informed of the developments. 7

Wherever possible, the office may assist in arranging reasonable accommodation for the participants at economical rates.

8 Modifications The scheme can be modified, altered or abandoned at any time. All decisions about the scheme shall be at the sole discretion of Board of Studies and binding on all. Nobody shall have any right or claim whatsoever against the Board of Studies or the Institute.
