1 The 2016 Centenary Festival Will be held at The Braid Arts Centre Bridge Street Ballymena Ballymena Festival first took place in 1916 and to help celebrate our Centenary each participant/group will receive a Commemorative Certificate. 2 ENTRY CONDITIONS THE CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES IS FRIDAY 15TH JANUARY 2016 Entries can be made ONLINE at or by post using the appropriate Entry Form Online Entries Registered users may enter performers or themselves online. PAYMENT CAN BE MADE BY PAYPAL or BY CHEQUE. Those making online entries receive full confirmation of the entries by and the entries can also be viewed by the user (only) on the website at any time. See Entries by post using the Entry Forms The General Entry form applies to all classes except Northern Ireland Singer and the Male and Female Voice Repertoire classes. Entry forms are included with the printed copy of this syllabus and can be downloaded from the Festival Website All entries must be made using the General Entry Form, the Northern Ireland Singer Entry Form or the Male/Female Voice Repertoire Form as appropriate. Photocopies of these forms are acceptable. The form or photocopy must be signed by the person entering the performer(s). The General Entry Form provides for one or more entries from one teacher, school, parent or individual, together with the details of own choice performance items and, in the case of the Music section, whether or not the performer requires the Official Accompanist. Those teachers entering more performers than will fit on one form should complete the declaration part of the form and make sufficient photocopies of the performers side. These extra pages should be numbered and signed. Those not having access to photocopying facilities may, in addition to one copy of the official entry form, submit a list of performers on plain paper provided it has all the information required by the printed form and that each page is numbered and signed. Entries will be accepted only if all details are complete. Own choice Music Classes Copies of own choice music for the Official Accompanist (in classes where one is provided and has been requested with the entry - see below) must be sent to the Section Music Secretary to arrive not later than 23rd January. IT WOULD BE HELPFUL IF THESE COPIES WERE ENCLOSED WITH THE ENTRY. A copy for the adjudicator must be sent with the entry or brought on the day. Please note that either the playing copy or the adjudicator s copy must be an original (or both), otherwise the performer will not be allowed to perform. See also the rules for photocopying music on page 7. There are separate entry forms for the Northern Ireland Singer and Male and Female Voice Repertoire Classes. VOCAL SECTION OFFICIAL ACCOMPANISTS In the VOCAL Section an Official Accompanist will NOT be provided for Choir Classes. In all other vocal classes an official Accompanist will be available if required. Where an official Accompanist is requested for own choice classes a copy of the accompaniment must be provided by 23rd January and preferably with the entry INSTRUMENTAL SECTION An Official Accompanist will be available for all classes except pianoforte. For Class 100: Pianoforte Concerto, the Instrumental Secretary may be able to advise regarding an accompanist for the orchestral part, and may be able to arrange rehearsal time on the Festival pianos subject to availability. Where an official Accompanist is requested for own choice classes a copy of the accompaniment must be provided by 23rd January and preferably with the entry.

4 JUNIOR VOCAL AWARDS MONTGOMERYS YOUNG VOICE AWARD First Prize 100 and the Curran Cup (presented in memory of Mr George B Curran by his wife Myrtle); Second Prize: 50 Conditions of Entry: To be competed for by the winners of the following classes: 34a Boys Vocal Solo years 39: Girls Vocal Solo, Class 42: Folk Song, Class 45: Sacred Solo, Class 47: Interpretation, Class 50: Junior Repertoire, under 18 In addition the Adjudicator may, at his/her discretion, choose one performer from one solo class not listed Performance requirements: Each performer sings the song for which he/she has been awarded a prize in the qualifying classes. The winner of this class is not eligible to enter in 3 subsequent years. 7 Availability of Music MUSIC AVAILABILITY AND COPYRIGHT Test pieces set for the Music, Speech & Drama sections of this syllabus may be examined at Ballymena Library. These must not be taken from the library. Music for the Festival may be obtained from: Nicholl Brothers Music, Church Street, Ballymena Matchetts (Musical Instruments) Ltd., 6 Wellington Place, Belfast BT1 6EG Photocopying of Own Choice Pieces The Music Publishers Association recently issued a revised Code of Practice on making copies of copyright works. For the copying of Own Choice music the following concession is made: When a title is selected from a Publication containing different works, not published separately, one copy of a title may be made for an adjudicator s use at a Festival, provided that performers have already purchased, or are in possession of, a legallypublished Copy. NO other photocopies may be made without the permission of the copyright holder in all cases. Photocopies for the Adjudicator must be totally legible, or they may be refused. The concession referred to in the first paragraph does not apply to music for the Accompanists, who must always be provided with a published copy of the music. Speech and Drama Own Choice Copyright regulations appear at the beginning of Speech and Drama Section of this Syllabus. Songs from the Shows Copyright All performances using music from shows in current production are subject to copyright law. They may be sung as concert items, i.e. with no costume or movement, without the need for copyright permission. Where movement or costume is included in a performance copyright is required and the Festival committee accepts these entries on the basis that the appropriate copyright permission has been sought. Performers or teachers with queries as to how to obtain such permission should contact Festivals House on before making entries. SAFEGUARDING POLICY The Festival s Safeguarding Policy is listed in full at the end of this Syllabus and distributed with performers timetables. The festival seeks your partnership in creating and maintaining a safe environment for all children and vulnerable adults attending the Festival. All children and vulnerable adults must be accompanied by a responsible adult and are not the responsibility of the festival personnel. BYELAWS The Festival s Bye-laws are part of the conditions of entry and are listed at the end of the Syllabus.
