2 Sumandeep Vidyapeeth Sumandeep Nursing College Piparia, Waghodia, Vadodara World Heart Day 2015 Report Date: - 29 th September, 2015 Organizers: - Department of Medical Surgical Nursing, Sumandeep Nursing College. Venue: - Sumandeep Nursing College Beneficiaries:- Nursing Students and general public of Waghodia Village Objectives:- To bring awareness in the community regarding prevention of CAD. To provide an opportunity to the students to organize and participate in the International Day celebration. To prevent CAD & other heart diseases by public awareness walk. To orient and educate nursing students regarding anatomy of heart. To gather and transfer information regarding prevention of CAD. Activities performed:- 1. Drawing Competition on Cross-section of Heart 59 participants 2. Depiction of Quotes in student council notice board on the topic Prevention of CAD 54 participants 3. Public Awareness March from PHC to Taluka office, Waghodia (Main Roads of Waghodia) with pluck cards 155 participants & 5 teachers. 4. Seminar on Prevention of CAD 326 beneficiaries Significance/need of the program:- Sumandeep Nursing College celebrated World heart Day with the theme Creating Heart-Healthy Environment. World Heart Day s theme is creating heart-healthy environments. The places in which we live, work and play should not increase our risk of cardiovascular disease. But individuals frequently cannot make heart-healthy choices due to environmental factors such as the availability of healthy food or smoke-free zones. Thus, keeping this in mind we organized awareness program on prevention of CAD by public awareness march and seminar.
3 World Heart Federation provided us the health education materials, videos and other materials regarding the celebration on our communication. Programme Schedule:- Sr. Batch Activity Time No. 1 1 st Year B.Sc Nursing Drawing Competition on Crosssection of Heart 09:30 10:30 a.m. 2 2 nd Year B.Sc Nursing Depiction of Quotes in student council notice board on the topic Prevention of CAD 10:30 11:00 a.m. 3 3 rd Year G.N.M. 4 th Year B.Sc Nursing 2 nd Year P B B.Sc Nursing 1 st & 2 nd M.Sc Nursing Public Awareness March from PHC to Taluka office, Waghodia ( Main Roads of Waghodia) with pluck cards 11:00 12:30 p.m. 4 3 rd Year B.Sc Nursing Seminar on Prevention of CAD 2:00 3:00 p.m. Details of the program:- 1. Drawing competition For First year B.Sc Nursing students: Drawing competition was arranged for F.Y B.sc Nursing students at Lecture Hall No. 1 Between Am to Am. 59 students participated and drawn a neat cross section of Heart. Mr. Suresh V, Ms. Sijo Koshy and Mrs. Ruhi Varghese judged the competition and winners were awarded by certificate and prizes. 1 st Prize Ms. Archana Somnathan 2 nd prize Ms. Palak Patel 3 rd prize Ms. Harika Patel 2. Quotes/Saying on World Heart Day nd year B.Sc Nursing students participated in the programme by making quotes and sayings on World Heart Day theme Quotes and sayings made by the students were displayed on student council notice board. 3. An Awareness March in Waghodia:
4 Prior permission was taken from Mamlatdar and Inspector of Police, Waghodia. March initiated from PHC, passed through ICDS office, Taluka office, post office, main circle and ended at PHC, Waghodia (Main Roads of Waghodia). Over 155 students held pluck cards and raised the slogan regarding prevention of CAD, keeping heart healthy, salt restricted diet, periodical medical consultation and health check up. 4. Seminar on prevention of Coronary artery diseases : A seminar was organized regarding prevention of coronary artery diseases at SBKS MIRC auditorium, Sumandeep Vidyapeeth at 2:00 p.m. 326 participants were present. Mr. Kevin Christian invited & welcomed all faculty members & nursing students. Mr. Ravindra H.N HOD, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, disclosed the theme and gave awareness on the prevention of Coronary Artery Diseases. The resource person were: o Mr.Keval Patel gave introduction on the topic CAD its diagnosis disease progression and showed how it can be prevented and what the diagnostic measures to be taken. o Ms. Abhilasha took session on hypercholesterolemia and dietary management. o Further, Mr. Rajat, Ms. Nishtha and Ms. Kisha elaborated on the topics obesity, hypertension and smoking, oral contraceptives and diabetes mellitus respectively. o Video of World heart federation day was also shown to the beneficiaries to bring up the motivation of world heart day celebration and to educate them about how CAD can be prevented. At the end, winners (1 st, 2 nd & 3 rd ) for the drawing/painting competition on cross-section of heart were presented a gift/certificate. Conclusion: - The total number of beneficiaries was 326 including UG & PG nursing students. The programme has influenced UG and PG nursing students by showing the importance of theme Creating Heart-Healthy Environments 2015 on World Heart day. The aim of this initiative is to improve health globally by encouraging people to make lifestyle changes and promoting education internationally about ways to be good to your heart. Outreach programme like public awareness march has also shown its importance of spreading the awareness among general public. The UG students also received benefit of showing their cognitive/psychomotor skills by drawing competition & organizing seminars.
