Specifications Molded Case Circuit Breakers TD/TS series circuit breakers have built in thermal-magnetic trip units. Some models of the TD/TS series circuit breakers are UL Listed to be applied at up to 100% of their current rating. Because of the additional heat generated, the use of specificallydesigned enclosures and 90 C rated wire are required when using circuit breakers at 100% of their current rating. Markings on the circuit breaker indicate the minimum enclosure size and ventilation requirements. The 90 C wire size shall be based on UL 489. Circuit breakers with 100% rating can also be used in applications requiring only 80% continuous loading. Technical Information Application Circuit Breakers for 400Hz Networks When circuit breakers are used at high frequencies, the breakers are required to be derated due to increased resistance of the copper sections resulting from the skin effect produced by eddy currents at 400Hz. Standard production breakers can be used with alternating currents with frequencies other than 50/60Hz when appropriate derating coefficients should be applied. Thermal Magnetic Trip Thermal trip: From the data shown below, the tripping threshold of the thermal element (ln) decreases as the frequency increases because of the reduced conductivity of the materials and the increase of the associated thermal phenomena.
