Students may work independently, cooperatively, or peer-paired. The students engage in activities that accommodate diverse learning styles and strategies as well as multiple intelligences. The activities facilitate the exploration and practice of new as well as familiar approaches to learning: the alphabetical order activity reinforces phonemic awareness and facilitates encoding skills; the word search puzzle activity affords practice scanning and strengthens encoding skills; the rhyming words activity provides opportunities to encode new words and expand vocabulary; the write a story or a poem activity engages students in creative writing.
