1 First Grade Spelling Dear Parents, Beginning this week, the first graders will be starting their spelling program. Each Monday, or the beginning of the week, they will be given a pre-test on 10 words that they will write in their agenda. The first 5-8 words will be from word, the last words will be high frequency. Their spelling will be corrected and a list will be attached to their agenda. Students are to use this pre-test to study their words. Throughout the week, we will have different activities like spelling word finds, and putting the words in ABC order to reinforce their words. On Friday, a test of the words will be given along with 4 dictated sentences. The high frequency words will be expected to be spelled correctly in their daily writing EACH time they use them. We have tried to reinforce to the students that if they study the words a little each night, they will not have much difficulty on the test. A good time to study would be after they read their reading/mini books to you and practice their addition/subtraction flash cards. Thank you for your cooperation.
