Welcome to Digi-Camp s Summer Programs Since the winter of 2006 Digi-Camp has been offering Winter, Spring and Summer Camps for extraordinary kids using 21st century tools and skills. We staff our camps with highly qualified Florida certified teachers who love working with children. Our instructional staff is at the heart of why we are successful. Digi-Camp has undergone some changes since our founding in 2006, but our underlying principles remain intact: so fun and exciting that they do not want to go home at the end of the day. 2. A Few Camp Notes We hold enrollment to small numbers in order to give kids a great experience and lots of attention. Our camps are popular and therefore fill quickly. We suggest you register and pay as soon as possible to avoid being placed on a wait list. Our easy online registration process makes sign-up and paying for camp painless and fast. Our Camp Location Our camps are held at the Young Makers Lab location on Federal Highway in Boca Raton. We are just north of Yamato Road, making it super convenient to I-95, Congress Avenue, and Federal Highway. We have just over 3700 square feet of indoor space, including two building/ computer labs, an upstairs Digital Media Loft, a TV/Podcasting lab, and our world famous Robo-Lab - where kids build, program, test and battle robots! To the rear of our building is a beautiful, new City of Boca Raton Park called Sand Pine Park. We normally have lunch in the shade of the trees on their picnic tables and then spend a little energy on their playground after lunch. 3

Online Registration Registration for our summer programs can be completed online. Digi-Camp uses a simple web-based registration system that will allow you to complete registration from any connected device. Payment can be made using any major credit card, or you are welcome to pay by cash or check. Give us a call if you prefer to pay by check or cash. Here is what you will need to register: Go to www.digicamp.com and use the menu at the top of the page to navigate to the appropriate registration link. Fill in your family and camper s information. Select the camp programming you are interested in. Complete the process by paying. It s that simple. www.digicamp.com Camp Content, Age Breakdown & Costs Our price structure is simple. Base Price: $330 per week Extended care: $75 per week Additional charges: mbot Robotics - $110 RC Planes - $100 Rocketry - $75 Fabrication - $20 *the mbot workshops are broken into two sections, arranged based on ages. Curriculum differs to make the best use of age appropriate practices, equipment and software. More information about all of these offerings is on the next several pages. Additional charges cover the cost of the materials needed for that particular camp. In these cases campers will bring home things they build. 2016 Digi-Camp Content Matrix * Camp appropriate ages are indicated in parentheses. 2016 Digi-Camp Content Intro to Robotics with mbots Brand New Content! Ages 7-9 This brand new camp is offered twice in 2016. June 20-24 and July 25-29 Each maker will build their own mbot a fun but powerful robot with motors, sensors, and the ability to be programmed using the Scratch programming language from MIT (the same language we use in our Video Game Programming I and II camps). Campers will bring their robot home at the end of the camp. Young Makers will learn to program their robots to move and to react to its surroundings using light and distance sensors. Kids will learn by completing a series of fun challenges that will allow them to teach their bot to do surprisingly complex things. Intro to Robotics with mbots Brand New Content! Ages 10-14 This new camp is offered twice in 2016. June 27-July 1 and August 1-5 This is a great way for our intermediate-aged makers to take their programming and electronics skills to new levels using an expandable robotics platform the mbot. This little robot is based on the Arduino microprocessor system, and is programmable using the Scratch programming language that we use in our Video Game Programming classes. After building the robot and doing some introductory programming in Scratch, we will teach more advanced techniques using C-based code in the Arduino IDE. As the camp progresses, Young Makers will complete a series of challenges using their robot, additional sensors, and programming techniques. At the end of the camp, everyone gets to take home the robot they built so that the learning can continue at home! 5

2016 Digi-Camp Content Video Game Programming Level 1 Minecraft Modding Brand New Content! Ages 9-14 This popular camp is offered three times in 2016. June 6-10, June 27-July 1 and July 25-29 Campers will learn to program their own video games using one of the most popular video game software packages available developed by the engineers at MIT. This is a new camp & is offered two times in 2016. June 20-24 and July 18-22 Young Makers learn to modify Minecraft using a Blockly / Javascript based system that was designed to introduce kids to basic programming concepts through their favorite video game. Campers will make a variety of mini-games like Capture the Flag as well as create their own blocks, mobs, and items, and reprogram their Minecraft world in ways only they can imagine! Included in the price of the camp is a one-year subscription to the Learn To Mod online programming system that we will use in the camp so that your Young Maker can continue to program inside Minecraft once camp is over. Video Game Programming Level 2 This popular camp is offered three times in 2016. June 13-17, July 5-8 and August 1-5 Campers will take their own video games to the next level, learning how to include advanced elements including gravity, scorekeeping, levels and more. Podcasting/TV Production This camp is offered twice in 2016. June 20-24 and July 25-29 Campers will learn to imagine, develop, & create their own TV/Podcast series. We will use our brand new TV/ Podcasting studio & state-of-the-art software. 6

2016 Digi-Camp Content Video/Film Production Level 1 Stop Motion Animation This popular camp is offered twice in 2016. June 6-10 and July 11-15 Campers get to bring their imagination to film. Campers will write, storyboard, cast, rehearse, film and edit their own stories. We use state-of-the-art video production equipment including cameras, and digital, non-linear editing tools. This fun camp is offered two times in 2016. June 27-July 1 and August 1-5 Campers will get to bring their ideas to life. They will develop their own stories using elements of plot, setting, rising action, conflict, and resolution. Once characters and backgrounds are made, students use computers, webcams and special software to bring their stories to life! We will cover idea development, storyboarding, prep and production, lighting and composition and of course, the shooting and editing. Video/Film Production Level 2 This popular camp is offered twice in 2016. June 13-17 and July 18-22 Campers will learn to use advanced editing techniques including Final Cut Pro and advanced graphic editing and camera techniques. Be ready to get blown away! Photography This camp is offered twice in 2016. July 5-8 and August 8-12 Campers will learn to use digital point-andshoot as well as DSLR cameras to capture beautiful photographs. We will dabble in lighting techniques, rule of thirds, leading lines, & even photo editing techniques. Two awesome field trips are planned for our young photographers. 7

2016 Digi-Camp Content Makercamp Fabrication Brand New Content! Ages 7-9 Brand New Content! Ages 9-14 This new camp is offered three times in 2016. June 6-10, July 5-8 and August 1-5 This camp is for kids who like to make interesting, artistic, and technical inventions! We will make a variety of amazing projects that move, draw, fly, grab, and most of all make kids think. This new camp is offered three times in 2016. June 13-17, July 11-15 and August 8-12 Introduce your child to the world of digital fabrication, where they can produce in the real world whatever they can imagine and create on a computer! We will work with powerful 2D and 3D design software that is appropriate for kids, but still able to make complex objects. Then we will teach your child to produce their designs on a variety of digital fabrication machines. Participants will take home all of their creations! Advanced Video Game Programming Brand New Content! Ages 9-14 This brand new camp is offered twice in 2016. July 11-15 and August 8-12 In this session, Campers will take their video game creation to a brand new level and platform known as Stencyl. Stencyl s intuitive block-snapping interface was inspired by a highly lauded research project, which has proven to be an effective teaching tool with children as young as nine. Campers must have taken our Level 1 and Level 2 Video Game Programming camp before enrolling in this camp. Lego WeDo Robotics Ages 7-9 This camp is offered twice in 2016. July 5-8 and August 8-12 Makers will complete a series of challenges which require engineering, creativity, and imagination to solve using the LEGO We Do robotics kits. WeDo helps teach how technology plays an active role in the students everyday life and is ideal for teaching across all of the subjects - including Math, Science, Technology and Engineering. 8

2016 Digi-Camp Content Lego Robotics Level 1 Lego Robotics Level 2 Ages 9-14 This popular camp is offered twice in 2016. June 6-10 and July 11-15 Campers will build and program Lego EV3 Mindstorms designed to help students take ownership of the learning process, enabling them to actively develop the problem-solving skills and collaborative outlook necessary to become creators, not just consumers. Ages 9-14 This popular camp is offered twice in 2016. June 13-17 and July 18-22 Makers will complete a series of challenges which require engineering, creativity, and imagination to solve using the LEGO robotics kits. The goal of these projects is to advance young makers abilities in the tools and processes behind robotic development and programming. As with all of our workshops, the ultimate goal is to give kids the ability to create almost anything they can imagine using what they have learned. Rocketry Brand New Content! Ages 9-14 This brand new camp is offered twice in 2016. June 20-24 and July 18-22 Introduce your Young Maker to the science and fun of rocketry! During the week of camp, we will build a variety of rockets using air, water, and chemical propellants. Participants will build their own launch platform to take home, along with the four rockets they will build during the week and their own video of all of the action! In addition, they will learn about the math and science behind rocketry by using a simulation software to predict the flight of rockets they build, along with the Kerbal Space Program software to simulate and launch life size rockets to orbit and beyond! Remote Control Planes Brand New Content! Ages 9-14 This camp is offered twice in 2016. June 27-July 1 and July 25-29 This week is all about things that fly. We will build a number of fixed wing aircraft, starting with simple gliders and working our way up to full sized remote control airplanes which each participant will take home with them! Because campers will be building the aircraft themselves from parts (many of which come from Home Depot!) they will be able to keep them going long after camp is over by fixing them on their own if they crash. When you make something, it is truly yours. 9

Frequently Asked Questions Q: What are your hours? Q: What ages do you accept? A: Camp hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. We do offer extended care hours from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at a cost of $15 per day. Q: Are your prices competitive A: We are working parents and understand the financial challenges faced by our friends and neighbors. That said, Digi-Camp is offered at amazingly reduced prices compared to our competitors. Our only local competitors (Pine Crest and Pine Tree) are priced much higher at $399 and $362 per week respectively- and their hours are 9:30 to 3:00. The Pine Crest Camp offers extra morning and afternoon hours at a weekly cost of $133 that works out to a total of $532 per week. Pine Tree charges $108 per week extra for afternoon care. Also at Pine Tree you are forced to sign up for a minimum of three weeks at $1085 per session that s a $65 increase from 2013. At Pine Tree you would pay $470 per week. Q: Do you offer a day rate? A: Due to the nature of our camp we cannot offer a day rate. Our camps fill up quickly and reserving a spot for someone for only a day or two doesn t make sense. If you wish to register and pay for an entire week with the intention of only attending a few days, we do allow that, but we cannot offer a discount. Q: Do you offer a sibling discount? A: No. We do offer discounts for registering and paying early. The discounts typically expire in January. A: Campers should be age 7 by the date the camp begins. Digi-Camp reserves the right to screen our campers based on age and maturity level. Camp content is not geared for the very young. Also, our camps are intended for young teenagers so our cutoff is age 14. Q: What about lunches? A: Campers will bring their lunch and snacks to camp. We do not have refrigeration capacity for our campers, nor do we allow campers to microwave food, therefore we ask that you plan accordingly. Q: Do you allow parents to come in during the day or to assist with lunches? A: No. We employ a very talented and large enough staff to handle all aspects of the camp day. For the safety and security of all campers, we request that parents drop off and pick up at the registration desk only. Parents are not allowed to attend any portion of the camp day. Q: How will I know if I am registered? A: Once you have registered and paid for all camp fees, you will receive an email thanking you and reminding of the weeks for which you are registered. A Few Fast Facts Camp Enrollment All programs operate on a weekly basis depending upon availability and age requirements. There are no halfdays, or daily options. Registration Summer Camp registration is only available online. You can also pay online with a credit or debit card. If you would prefer to pay by check or cash, please call or text us to arrange a time - 561-236-0938. You can also mail checks to Digi-Camp, 5455 N. Federal Highway, Suite I (indigo), Boca Raton, FL 33487 Refunds & Attendance Policies Digi-Camp has a NO REFUND POLICY. Any days missed cannot be made up elsewhere during the summer. Severe Weather Refunds or make-up days will not be issued in the event that the N.H.C. broadcasts a hurricane/tropical storm warning for our area. In such a case, Digi-Camp will cancel its program for the duration of the inclement weather. Post-Registration Changes A $50 administrative fee will automatically be charged to your camp account for any change(s) in registration once camp is in session. Insurance Parents/Guardians are responsible for the payment of all insurance and medical bills. Personal Devices Campers are allowed to bring personal devices, such as ipads, phones, headphones - which are required if camper brings a device to which they intend to listen - and even computers. It is the responsibility of the camper to secure and take care of their own devices. Digi-Camp will not be held responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal belongings of the campers.
