Society of Women Engineers James Madison University Sponsorship Information 2015-2016
September 2015 Dear Potential Sponsor, The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is an educational and service organization that empowers women to succeed and advance in the field of engineering. SWE s mission is to stimulate women and men to achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expand the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life, and demonstrate the value of diversity. The James Madison University SWE Section was officially chartered on May 6, 2013. The JMU SWE Section has been actively involved with SWE on a national and regional level. Also, JMU SWE has been a very visible organization on campus and in the community by hosting and participating in many events. Our goal is to promote education, professional development, and outreach by holding a variety of events and activities for our members and for the community. These events are made possible solely through the generous support of our sponsors. We cordially invite YOU to support our organization and help empower women engineers to succeed and advance in engineering by becoming a part of James Madison University s Society of Women Engineers! With your support, young girls and boys can also learn about careers in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields. Sponsorship offers your company the opportunity to be recognized by a large network of Madison Engineers, professionals, parents, and professors as you support the promotion and exposure of engineering to people young and old! With much gratitude, we look forward to you making an immense impact on student s lives by leaving your mark on JMU SWE. Please review the remaining pages of the sponsorship packet for more details on becoming a JMU SWE Sponsor. JMU SWE Events Aspire, Advance, Achieve The Society of Women Engineers (SWE), section E112, at James Madison University was chartered on May 6, 2013 by the SWE Board of Directors. We are a collegiate society that empowers women to succeed and advance in the field of engineering, and to be recognized for their life changing contributions as engineers and leaders. Below are highlights of some of our events. We welcome sponsorship involvement in all these events! Chartering banquet group photo with JMU members and faculty. A student greeting Katy Warden at our Dinner With Industry event with Northrop Grumman We are involved in many outreach activities throughout the academic year. Two of the most impactful events reach local middle and high school female students. Our section held our first annual High School Engineering Outreach day for local female high school students in the fall. These students were exposed to engineering through design challenges, hands-on laboratory activities, a talk from a working female engineer, and a student panel. In the spring, we annually host an engineering workshop in the Expanding Your Horizon (EYH) Conference, which is a program for girls in grades 6-11 who want to pursue a future in the STEM field. Girls build candy bridges in our workshop and learn about how geometry plays a role in keeping to bridge from collapsing when loaded. We also hold events that address our goal of professional excellence. We host a resume or what not to wear workshop right before the campus career fair to allow members to improve the quality of their resumes and cover letters or their professional appearance, respectively. One of our highly impactful events is our annual Dinner with Industry. It is a great networking opportunity and gives our members insight to the professional field by meeting working engineers. This past year Northrop Grumman sponsored the event and we had a Fireside Chat with Kathy Warden after the meal. Overall, we are a close-knit group of students who share the same interests and goals. Our collegiate section is a new and growing section, which strives to do our best to aspire the profession, advance in the field, and achieve our long and short term goals. We welcome you to become apart of our section through sponsorship!
