The OMNITRACKER Windws client can be run n Citrix (XenApp) servers. At least Citrix Presentatin Server 4.5 with FP1 is required. Make sure t cnfigure the Citrix server fr ptimum WPF perfrmance accrding t Citrix s recmmendatins. Usually, this means that clients and server must have the same versin number (unless specified therwise in the OMNI- TRACKER Release Ntes). This als applies t the OMNITRACKER Develpment Envirnment. All ther cmpnents (Email Gateway, Web Gateway, and s n) must have the same versin number as the OMNI- TRACKER server. Please nte that OMNI- TRACKER can run n slwer systems but a drp belw the reasnable perfrmance threshld is t be expected (fr a mre detailed definitin f what can be cnsidered speed see Dimensining f the OMNITRACKER Applicatin and Database Server belw) Unless nted therwise, the specified hardware requirements d nt describe a system cnfiguratin that allws OMNITRACKER t perfrm at ptimal speed. Since OMNITRACKER is an applicatin which may be highly custmized and the cnfiguratin schema may strngly affect the resurce utilizatin (CPU, memry, disk, netwrk, ) it is impssible t recmmend hardware sizing t ptimize perfrmance fr specific cnfiguratins and lad prfiles withut further analysis. Server Dimensining The minimum hardware requirements depend n the usage scenari fr OMNITRACKER. Yu must take int accunt the maximum number f cncurrent users, and the user actin frequency (UAF). User actin frequency (UAF) means the average number f actins a user perfrms per minute. A typical mix f actin types is given in the Applicatin Server and Database Server sectins. Fr less than 100 cncurrent users, yu usually btain the maximum perfrmance if applicatin server and database server are running n the same machine. This requires that the machine is sized in a frm that it can accmmdate bth servers; furthermre, the database server must be cnfigured in a frm that it leaves enugh main memry fr the OMNITRACKER server and the perating system. If yu want t separate applicatin and database servers, yu shuld make sure that bth servers are cnnected via a 1.000 MBit/s link. Belw yu can find dimensining suggestins fr applicatin and database server. If yu intend t use nly a single server, please add up CPU Passmark rating, RAM sizes, and hard drive requirements respectively. Dimensining f the OMNITRACKER Applicatin and Database Server The fllwing infrmatin is based n the benchmark rating calculated by the Passmark tl PerfrmanceTest 7.0 (www.passmark.cm). We recmmend the fllwing dimensins fr yur server fr a given number f cncurrent users and a given User actin frequency. The numbers belw are based n the fllwing mix f actin types: (1) 5% Write actins (Create and Mdify Objects) 2.5% Sending f emails (as part f write actins) 5% Full-text searches 15% Read actins (Visiting flders) 75% Read actins (Opening bjects) With this mix f actin types and the server dimensins given, a reasnable minimum perfrmance culd be achieved fr peak-time user actin frequencies (6 actins per user per minute): A server respnse time (nt cunting client-side prcessing) f less than 3s fr at least 80% f all user actins. E.g. if yur database files have a size f 10 GB, assign at least 10 GB RAM t yur database. Yu must als make sure that the RAM is assigned t yur database server sftware, nt nly t the hardware; sme database servers require that yu assign the RAM manually t the database server. Yu als must cnsult yur database dcumentatin t ensure that yur specific database editin supprts the required amunt f memry. This als means that fr RAM sizes abve 3 GByte the respective 64bit editin f the perating system is usually required. Dimensining f a Terminal Server The mst imprtant things t take int accunt when dimensining Terminal Servers fr OMNI- TRACKER clients are required RAM size (at least 2GByte RAM + 300MByte per user) and required netwrk bandwidth (at least 256 kbit/s per user). Rugh CPU Passmark indices fr the Terminal Server can be btained by scaling up the respective CPU Passmark indices fr OMNITRACKER clients (see belw). Ethernet link between OMNITRACKER Applicatin Server and Database Server We recmmend a gigabit Ethernet cnnectin between the servers. Dimensining f the Web Server(s) The fllwing Passmark rating is a recmmended value f the Web Server which serves abut 100 cncurrent Web users. Please nte: When yu are upgrading frm OMNI- TRACKER 8.x r earlier (based n MFC technlgy) t OMNITRACKE 9.x r later (based n WPF technlgy), yu need t upgrade yur hardware, if yu want the client t run with the same perfrmance; this is caused by the WPF technlgy that is used in OMNI- TRACKER 9.x and later. The abve requirements refer t situatins when OMNITRACKER is the nly running applicatin n the client. If ther applicatins are running cncurrently, yu must add the OM- NITRACKER system requirements t the sum f the system requirements f all ther applicatins. The best perfrmance results can be achieved by using Windws 7, SP1. Netwrk Cnfiguratin (OMNI- TRACKER) OMNITRACKER uses TCP/IP fr cmmunicatin. Recmmend bandwidths: Fr Windws Client cnnectins, a bandwidth f at least 128 kbit/s per user is recmmended. The netwrk latency shuld nt be higher than 50 ms. Fr Web Client cnnectins, a bandwidth f at least 256 kbit/s per user is recmmended. When perating OMNITRACKER using Terminal Services r Citrix Metaframe, a bandwidth f at least 256 kbit/s per user is recmmended. Fr security reasns, OMNITRACKER applicatins are digitally signed; when they are started, an Internet cnnectin t a certificate revcatin list server is created t ensure the validity f the signature. This check des nt happen, if Windws detects that there is n Internet access. In very rare circumstances, a Windws system might be cnfigured in such a way that it des nt crrectly detect that the current user has n Internet access. In this case, starting OMNITRACKER applicatins (e.g. the Windws client) might take up t several minutes. Netwrk Cnfiguratin (OMNI- TRACKER Multi Server Architecture) Cluster-Internal Netwrk When using OMNITRACKER in a Multi-Server Architecture setup, a dedicated high-bandwidth (1 Gbit/s r better), lw-latency (<< 1ms) netwrk is required fr inter-server cmmunicatin. Recmmendatins fr Remte Desktp When running the Windws client n a Windws terminal server, the fllwing recmmendatins apply t the remte desktp clients: On Windws Vista and Server 2003, yu shuld install the remte desktp cnnectin 7.0 client update (available frm Micrsft s dwnlad site). Fr small-bandwidth cnnectins, select the apprpriate cnnectin speed in the remte desktp client. Fr high-latency cnnectins (>= 100ms rund-trip), select the apprpriate cnnectin speed in the remte desktp client (e.g. Satellite (2 kbits-16mbps with high latency) ). Set the clr depth t 16 bit. Disable all checkbxes (e.g. fnt smthing, visual styles, etc.) except Persistent bitmap caching. D nt use large windws sizes. Use the smallest windw size that still allws yu t wrk efficiently. vendrs f Windws, Crystal Reprts, SQL Server, Oracle r DB2 may have similar supprt restrictins.
