How to create a dialup connection to an S8X00 Media Server Useful when customers wants to dial into their S8X00 server, however unlikely that situation is. Typically, customers will be able to access their S8X00 server over a network connection, affording a faster and more stable connection. However, on occasion, they customer may need to dial into their S8X00 server. This is a very different process than dialing into a G3 server. When dialing into an S8X00 server, you first have to establish a dialup network connection. For this, the customer will have to have a remote login setup. Typically, for ease of use, this login is named remote. It should have the login type of customer and the service level of remote. On MV 1.3.1 and below, it also has a field Access to Inads Port? which must be set to yes. On MV 1.3.2 and above, this field is not there and not needed. Remote login for MV 1.3.1 and below:
Remote login for MV1.3.2 and above: The customer will need to know the password for this remote login to be able to setup the dialup networking connection. Next, the customer will need to be on a PC with a modem. They will have to setup a Dialup Networking Connection. First, right-click on My Network Places and from the menu, select Properties.
From the Properties box, select Make New Connection. You will be taken to the New Connection Wizard. For Windows 2000: On the first screen, click next. Select Dialup to Private Network then click next. Enter the phone number however you would have to dial it over a phone (including a 9 to get out of the PBX, a 1 if it s a long distance number, and the area code if it s long distance, or you are in a 10-digit dialing area) then click next. Select For all users and click next. Name the connection, and create shortcut if desired. Click finish. If you opted to create a shortcut, there will now be a shortcut to this dialup connection on your desktop. For Windows XP: On the first screen, click next. Select Connect to the network at my workplace and click next. Select Dialup Connection and click next. Name the connection and click next. Enter the phone number however you would have to dial it over a phone (including a 9 to get out of the PBX, a 1 if it s a long distance number, and the area code if it s long distance, or you are in a 10-digit dialing area) then click next. Select Anyone s use and click next. At the final screen, create a shortcut if desired, and click finish. If you opted to create a shortcut, there will now be a shortcut to this dialup connection on your desktop.
To make the connection, double click the icon for the connection, and it will pull up the connection window: On this screen, enter the login name of remote (or whatever the customer named their remote login) and enter the password. The phone number should already be in the box. Click the Dial button to start the connection. It should show a dialogue box that shows you dialing, connecting, registering and authenticating. Once this is done, you will have a network connection icon in your toolbar showing this new connection: Now you have a dialup connection established to your S8X00 server. Now you will need the PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) IP address assigned by the server to connect through Avaya Site Administrator or a web interface.
To find this double click the network connection icon created by the dialup connection. It will pull up the connection information window: Click on the Details tab to find the PPP IP address. This is the Server IP Address : Use Avaya Site Administrator to connect to this address, or use a web browser to connect to the web interface. If you are using Proxies to connect to the Internet, you will need to tell your web browser to bypass your proxies to connect to this address.
When you are done, exit from Avaya Site Administrator or the web interface as you normally would. Once those are closed, you need to be sure to disconnect the dialup connection. To do this, again double click the network connection icon in your toolbar to pull up the network connection information window. In this window, there is a button labeled Disconnect. Click this button to disconnect your dialup connection. Now, your dialup connection is disconnected, and the S8X00 server modem should be available for another dialup connection.
