Foreword Following the success of the 2007 edition in Porto, the city of Lisbon welcomes you to the 2008 SES Workshop that will gather for the second time the faculty and students from all the schools engaged on the Sustainable Energy Systems focus area of the MIT Portugal Program: MIT, IST, ISEG, FCUL, FEUP and FCTUC. Purpose: To familiarize, update and move forward SES research topics representing the main areas of effort within the Sustainable Energy Systems focus area of the MIT Portugal program. Expected Outcome: Map of students faculty research teams and activities. Develop project plans for 2009 research activities. Reinforce bounds across all students and faculty. Participation: SES students (first and second year) and Faculty; Urban Transportation representatives from the Transportation Systems Focus Area.

Arrival and Transportation Airport The airport is 7 Km from the centre. The easiest way to get to the hotel or directly to Pavilhão do Conhecimento (Parque das Nações) is to take the taxi. The initial tariff is 3 and the trip for both cases shouldn t cost more than 10. Trains If you will come to Lisbon by train you will arrive to Estação do Oriente, in Parque das Nações. Metro The Lisbon metro has 4 lines (Red, Blue, Yellow and Green) that cover the city. There are two metro stations near IST: Saldanha (yellow line) and Alameda (green and red lines). Accomodation All participants have accommodation in Holiday Inn Hotel in Lisbon. This hotel is located near IST and 10m walking distance from Alameda (green and red metro lines) and 10m walking distance from Saldanha (yellow metro lines). Important Routes 1 Saturday Morning: Hotel Pavilhão do Conhecimento Address: Pavilhão do Conhecimento - Ciência Viva Parque das Nações Alameda dos Oceanos, Lote 2.10.01 Take the Metro in the Alameda station (red line) to the last station Oriente. When you arrive at Oriente exit towards Centro Comercial Vasco da Gama. Go through the shopping mall towards Pavilhão Atlântico, and then turn right, following the arrow until you see the Pavilhão de Conhecimento signed with a yellow circle in the figure.

2 Saturday Evening Hotel Bairro Alto Address: Restaurant Cervejaria Trindade Rua Nova de Trindade 20C Take the Metro in the Alameda station (Green Line) and exit on Baixa Chiado. When in Baixa Chiado please follow the indications towards the Largo Luís de Camões exit. Then just follow the arrow on the figure to arrive at the restaurant. After dinner, take a walk in Bairro Alto and enjoy the atmosphere

3 Sunday Morning Hotel ISEG Address: Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão Rua do Quelhas, n.º 6 Take the metro in the Alameda station (Green Line) to Baixa Chiado, then exit to Praça Luís de Camões. Here take the Tram number 28 with direction to Prazeres (yellow arrows sign the path). Exit when you arrive at Calçada da Estrela. It s only a few minutes walk until you find ISEG (signed on the map). Best entrance is from Rua Miguel Lupi, number 11.

4 Sunday Evening Hotel Expo Restaurant Sabores do Atlântico Address: Parque das Nações Rua do Bojador 47 Take the metro in the Alameda station (Red Line) and exit on Oriente. Here follow the indications towards Centro Comercial Vasco da Gama. Go through the shopping mall towards Pavilhão Atlântico, and then turn left, following the path described by the arrow in the figure bellow until you find the restaurant Sabores do Atlântico.

5 Monday Hotel IST IST is right in front of the Holiday Inn Hotel. Bellow you can view a schematic of IST. The workshop is at the Centro de Congressos, Pavilhão de Civil (see building 2 circled in red on the figure).
