2 1 - Getting to the Apartment from the Airport Lisbon Airport is located almost in the center of the city, so you can be at the apartment within 30/60 minutes depending on the mean of transportation you choose. By taxi The best way to get to the apartment and most comfortable one is by taxi, because it is not expensive as the airport is quite close to the city center! They are lined up outside the terminals, and even with luggage, it should cost you between 10 and 12 Euros!! At night the rate rises a bit so it may cost you up to 15 Euros! The estimated time to get to the apartment should be around minutes (with no traffic). Charge is according to the meter, adding 1.60 if you are bringing luggage with you! Page 2 As with many cities, watch out for dishonesty and if you think you are being charged significantly more than 12 Euros ask for their number and a receipt, and make it clear you plan to complain. To prevent these kinds of frauds and other situations like in case the taxi driver has no GPS and he doesn t know where the street is, etc, we ask you to show the taxi driver this paper with instructions to get to the apartment in Portuguese. 4 2 - Getting to the Apartment from Santa Apolónia Train Station Page 4 If you are arriving from the north or from an international destination such as Madrid or Paris, you will arrive at this train station which is the nearest one to the city center. As the airport and Oriente station are quite close to each other, everything we say there applies to the Oriente station, even the instructions to the taxi driver in Portuguese. From here it should cost a little bit less. Total cost should be around 8 euros or even less. Here you can also use the Portuguese instructions we gave on page 2 to show to the taxi driver. 6 5 - Getting to the Apartment from Sete Rios Train Station / Bus Terminal By taxi Please take into account what we said previously on page 2 about getting to the apartment by taxi. From here it should be a bit cheaper (around 10 Euros). 7 7 - Getting to the Apartment by Car Having a GPS system it should be very easy to get to the apartment. Please insert on your GPS system : Rua da Palmeira, 31. The postal code of this area is It can also help you to tell you that the street is in Príncipe Real district, near the Príncipe Real square garden. Page 7 Lisbon can be accessed from six main highways. 1 - Coming from the south (Algarve, Alentejo, Spain) - A2 The A2 goes all the way to the 25 de Abril bridge, which usually has lots of traffic getting into Lisbon, especially on weekday mornings. This is the best option if you want to go to the center of Lisbon or to the west (A5 - Estoril, Cascais, Sintra). 2 Coming from the East (the main route from Madrid) A12 Here you will be entering Lisbon trough Vasco da Gama bridge, the second longest bridge in Europe that usually has less traffic than the older one, but a more expensive toll. This is the best option to go to the eastern/northern section of Lisbon (to the airport and to the Parque das Nações - the former Expo 98 site), and also to take the A1 or A8 going north. 3 Coming from The North A1 and A8 Coming from the north, there is the A1, that connects Lisbon to Santarém, Fátima, Leiria, Coimbra, Aveiro, Porto. The A1 ends near the airport. There's also the A8, which goes to Torres Vedras, Caldas da Rainha, Alcobaça, Leiria. 4 Coming from the West A5 and IC19 From the west, there is the A5, which connects to Estoril, Cascais, and the IC19 that crosses all the suburbs and ends near Sintra. Lisbon has three ring roads: The 2ª circular, which connects the A1 to the IC19; the CRIL IC17 (still incomplete), which connects the Vasco da Gama bridge with the A1 and A8; and the CREL A9, which connects the A1 with the A8, IC19, A5, and goes all the way to the Estoril coast. 8 Parking in the area Parking in this area can be tough sometimes. Rua da Paz and many streets around in the area have parking places for residents. Other streets in the area are paid: you have to get ticket to park! Only very few streets don t have any of these limitations! We will be happy to tell you which streets they are when you arrive! During weekend you can park free wherever you want and it s not difficult to find a place whereas at night it can be a nightmare find where to park! A paid underground parking is just 350 meters from the apartment! Here you have an hourly rate and one full day can cost you up to euros

8 9 - Transport tickets modalities and fares (Metro, Trams, Buses) Page 8 Single Ticket On Board Fare. You buy the ticket from the bus/tram driver. - Bus on-board fare Tram on-board fare Lift on-board fare (2 trips) This ticket is only valid for that particular jouney 24 hours ticket Carris (Buses Trams and Funiculars) /Metro Network Valid for an unlimited number of trips on Carris and Metro network during 24 hours since the first entrance validation. Validation is made on an electronic device. Fare: 3,75 This transport title is not valid neither in touristic circuits nor in special bus services to the Airport. Recharchable Tickets (7 Colinas Viva Viagem) This is the best way to pay for city transport! Valid for Carris (Buses, Trams, and Funiculars) Metro network and Transtejo (Boats) This is a recharchable card. You can buy it for as little as 0.50 (this price does not include any trip) and charge money onto this card in a mode called zapping, which will give you slightly more credit than you pay for (for example, you will have to pay 7.00 for 7.35 of credit). You can then pay for travel by just touching the card to the control point at the barrier on entering and leaving stations or vehicles. Starting a journey will immediately deduct 1.05 (metro) or 0.85(buses and trams), the cost of a singlezone trip (which means most of downtown and Lisbon city).
